Samsung Galaxy S2 vs HTC Sensation

Since most people will use their phones to take pics of friends and people in general, can you take some headshots of someone with both phones?

Interested in seeing how skin tones come out. Also might be worth checking they're both set to the same white balance. Both phones support white balance adjustment!

Some more pictures then, I don't have any pictures of people Khaaan! but I'll get some when I find a willing model ;) You can probably guess the results of the tones anyway though.

I decided to use the iPhone 4 too so you can measure that up as it's a pretty decent camera. All settings are the same.

The iPhone beats the Sensation by an absolute mile. If you look at all the Sensation pics the level of detail is so bad that the pictures have a horrible blur effect. The fountain and the leaf photos show this especially... the level of detail is completely woeful compared to the iPhone 4, and especially the SGS II where you can see the individual grain of the bark on the branches when zoomed in.

Sensation.

Great comparison pics though, they will prove a reference for many im sure! :)

Perfect bit to look at to make the difference in detail obvious was to look at all the dirt built up around the logo on the mower.

On the ip4 and sgsII you can see the clumps of dirt, with the sensation it just looks like a brown smudge.

Still a great camera for a phone mind!

Were the white balance settings set to auto? if so that would explain why the iP4 has nicer colours due to having a bigger sensor (although the bigger sensor isn't better in the iP4 for video recording strangely) and therefore better white balance when set to auto!

I'd recommend setting them all to the "daylight" setting perhaps.

I'll try that Khaaan! and see if I can improve upon the contrast issue on the Sensation. White balance was on auto, yes.

Everyone knows what a can of Coca Cola looks like (so you can better judge the colours) :p -

Neck and neck exactly for ip4 and sgs2 there thanks! The sgsii shot has some more highlight area in the frame at the top so slightly brighter but colours look exactly the same.

Nice one :D

Yeah, sorry, the positioning wasn't perfect :(

You have to give credit to Apple where it's due though, the iP4 does have a cracking camera.

Also, robbo could you post some photos comparing the GS 2 and the sensation displays under direct sunlight and lower outside light conditions, if it's not too much trouble :p

Conditions:

- Side by side at 30% brightness intervals e.g. both at 30, 60 and then 90

- Both with auto brightness on in both of the above conditions

- Both displaying exactly the same image as each other so that's a fair test, preferably using a certain number of images e.g. dark and light images

Thanks.

I most certainly can, however the sun just went in. If it comes out I'll try and do that :)

Just my opinion though, they are both very usable in the sun on auto brightness; something I did not expect with the Sensation at least.

Not so true imo. Notice that due to the slightly higher angle in the sgs2, the sun has come into the frame (albeit mostly obscured by a window frame) which has caused the image to become slightly washed out.

I'm willing to bet that if the sun was taken out of the frame, the photo would have looked a fair bit better.

The colours would have been the same I reckon as they're largely the same in the above pics anyway! The exposure would have been on par with the iPhone 4 though or better (most probably better), that is if both pics were taken at the exact same angle :p

Ok, these aren't perfect either but there aren't any user error lighting problems. I think the picture of the rock is a real testament to the low-light capabilities of the Galaxy S II, it looks very impressive imo.

ip4 initially does look better I gotta say but the detail in darker areas is better on the samsung with colours trailing slightly behind.

It's such a shame none of the current phones allow you to manually choose an exposure though like on a camera. That would make the whole process a whole lot easier :p
