Samsung Galaxy S24 Family Thread

Interesting camera review, not blown away by the S24 Ultra from the reviews I have seen so far on the camera https://youtu.be/g5KlfVWz7pE?si=d70D2KofiXWp0Hkv

For me it was a bit of an impulse purchase as there is nothing wrong with my Pixel 8 pro so may just return the S24 Ultra as soon as it is delivered as it's in preparing despatch, the bit that does intrigue me the most is the battery which appears to be very good. Shows we've gotten to that point where the manufacturers are struggling to improve now on what they have as a package as they are at a very high level.

Have to see if the launch day camera patch improves things, plus the differences between Exynos and SD image processing (see hundreds of S22 comparisons on youtube)

Looks like S24 is getting better and makes me wondering now about my Pixel

See thread which starts with

TSMC's N4/N4P had a transistor density of ~144 MTr/mm2.
Samsungs 4LPE was at ~137 MTr/mm2

So in 2021 TSMC was a good bit ahead. But Samsung's 4LPP+ is their third 4nm process and is bound to be much better than it used to be. TSMC's flagship process, the 3nm, wasn't used in the Qualcomm SG3 so we're comparing the latest samsung process to a slightly outdated TSMC one.
Granted there's a lot to chipsets other than density.

Also, Google chooses TSMC to make their next CPU, I guess for the Pixel 9

Another source showing the exynos isn't too bad on battery. Comparable to snapdragon

S23 13:00

S24 13:50
S24+ 13:22
S24U 15:00

However, I am waiting to see mixed usage tests like GSMarena which include voice calling

Better look at the AG glass vs non Ultra, (and by def, all other phones):

This is a major feature over anything else tbh. 75% glare reduction.

Do not put a screen protector on the Ultra...

dont see problem using tempered glass protector and even easier to find them now the screen is flat, I used the UV glue type tempered glass on curved screens, without any protector the micro scratches over time give me OCD also the fact can save the screen from drop

I think we got some the same pre-order offers in Ireland(minus the £50 voucher) but wee have to claim the watch after getting the phone where it seems the UK receive it with the phone from seeing some screenshots of orders on here - no strap here either, but, we did receive a 'Use it or lose it' €100 store voucher.

My watch is coming after the phone (UK) - whatever date I picked it came later - might be a supply issue.

It's more that putting any glass on top of the screen will result in glare being re-introduced. Seems counter productive, get a really nice new screen that's even more scratch resistant than previous screens, and now with 75% less glare, only to slap on a screen protector and lose all of that glare reduction.

been using them for years I can live with more outside glare if it means it will be more likely saved if dropped I dont like using big cases slimmer the better and indoor use wouldnt really have issue with glare I dont go with the hype each time they say even more scratch resistant than prveious screens I bet it will still get micro scratches over time

I never used to use screen protectors on my phone until the Oleophobic coating wore off my S20 Ultra within 6 Months. The screen horrible to use & look at after that.

How thick is the Oleophobic coating on phones these days & how long before it wears off?

Micro scratches are a non issue as it makes no difference to trade in value.

The day my screen protector peeled off on my S23U, I found out how much better it was to use without one. Didn't bother putting another one on and so glad I didn't, could never go back to using a screen protector now. It's feels so so so much better to use the phone without one.

I dont trade in my phones I usually pass on to family or sell on and like my stuff to look as new when moved on , also maybe I have OCD if start seeing micro scratches over time but thats just me, I wouldnt use the film based protectors firstly they dont feel as good and wouldnt protect if dropped and smashed, tempered glass protector for me stops the micro scratches feels just as good, and save screen if dropped , even if the bare screen isnt cracked if dropped it will likely leave a scratch depending on surface dropped, I can live with the trade off having more glare when using outdoors , actually will check the difference next time with glare with and without when outdoors

Im seeing S21+ videos on youtube with this two-tone cream colour with the dark metal sides which I like. The girl inm the video says its yellow but seems more cream. What colour is that? The ones on the UK store all seem to be the same colour all round.

The closest on the UK store is the marble grey but doesnt seem to have as darks sides.

Intresting well looks like i will be waiting to see what pixel 9 has to offer.

It is the same, the video you posted has been colour graded and the yellow sides aren't as pronounced as they look on the stock Samsung renders. You can tell the video's one has yellow sides on the lineup b-roll images in the video.
