Samsung Galaxy S24 Family Thread

The edges do get smoother over time or maybe my thumbs have started to lose feeling.
People are making such a big deal of the edges. I have the Samsung screen protector on & the edges, while a bit sharp, will get smoother with wear. It's no big deal.

Fitting it was also a doddle. Not sure why people struggled with applying it.

Did your watch and strap come in their own boxes? My watch cam in one long box which includes strap as far as I could tell otherwise why was it so long lol).

Not arrived yet but I'm hoping to lock in an order for the £150 tomorrow as that "should" give 14 days for it to reach them (that's their price guarantee).

Mine arrives 9th Feb

I'm just thinking the price is for "excellent condition" - not brand new, so no harm opening the box to remove the sport strap and eBay it

I did a quick low light test with my camera app configured how I'd normally take photos, tested Pro mode in JPG and RAW, then normal photo mode.

I let the camera choose the exposure which all 3 seem to be matched for a fair comparison. Keep in mind these are iso 3200.

t's clear that Pro mode RAW has zero noise reduction applied and as a result the capture has a lot of grain and noise, reducing this noise then in Lightroom is too destructive so the stacked JPG capture seems to offer the best quality (for now). The JPG mode when in Pro is cleaner because I have some custom colour tone adjustments for shadows/highlights as I like the flatter output as it's better to work with as a JPG image in Lightroom Mobile after if needs be vs the harsher direct look without any adjustments.

The normal photo mode JPG has better HDR of course which is expected, but this result can be nearly replicated in Lightroom anyway through recovery.

So for now, the best mode as an overall seems to be Normal photo mode, unless you tweak the colour tone in Pro mode JPG.

I found out there was an issue when copying over a certain app. Think it was gallery app, my memory is a bit hazy, happened a long time ago but it copied it over but didn't overwrite the existing one on the new phone, causing it to crash.

I reset the phone and used Smart Switch again but copied only the essential things.

I just did a full reset and installed all the apps manually from the store and it's still doing it. Not happy. I've put a request into Samsung for a replacement. My S22 was perfect, I really hope it's not some kind of Exynos thing.

The S24 has Snapdragon?

I've learnt that restarting phone from backup seems to causes all sorts of problems. My S22 Ultra is running surprisingly smooth at the moment after 1: not running backup and installing apps manually and 2: not using a work profile that seems to be causes problems in relation to Microsoft InTune. I'd imagine if I got the S24 Ultra and then ran the same backups the phone would be met with terrible lag.

It's mentioned about 50 times in the thread. Only ultra is Snapdragon.

Just the regular S24, not a fan of the larger phones. The Exynos 2400 is supposed to close the gap significantly to Snapdragon this year but it's not off to a great start for me. If the replacement behaves the same I'll be seeking a refund.

Spigen Liquid Crystal.

I usually use a clear case for a few months just to show off the phone colour, but then I switch to an aramid fibre case which are my favourite type. Love that Kevlar look/feel.

Prices are ridiculous for it for the S24U at the moment though so I'll wait till they drop or will order from China when I get round to it.
Nice, I was contemplating between the Spigen Liquid Crystal (had this on my S23u and still is fine no yellow after almost a year) vs Ultra Hybrid vs Ringke clear matte. Decided to get the Ultra Hybrid this time, hopefully not too bulky.

Exynos 2400 appears to be great this time round and matches the Snapdragon, also restoring Samsung backup is no problem at all, wasn't a problem on S22, wasn't on S23, and isn't on S24. InTune basically takes over device admin, so yes having a work profile will affect what you can do, and introduce security scanning feature and things that can affect performance/battery life as this is dictated by your workplace. Having wqork stuff on a phone should be on a work supplied phone, not your personal phone.

@mrk
It seems like whatever InTune does, the damage isn't reversable until a reset is done. And I don't know, work profile is separate so by that logic I didn't realise work profile would knacker the phone. However, that doesn't take away with how horrendous the previous Exynos has been, it will be great is Samsung can level Snapdragon.

Envirofone are offering a decent trade in price for the watch if still doing £150, so I'd just send them the strap with it, it's not as if the strap is going to be worth that much + extra hassle of ebaying it or w/e.

The temptation to remove the glass SP is strong. After washing hands or going out in the cold and trying to use FPS it just does not detect my prints at all.
