Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Honeycomb Tablet

Interestingly enough I just replied to a Samsung Tweet about what app I would use most on the Tab and stated I would use Titanium Backup to remove the Samsung software. I recieved a reply saying the Tab 10.1 and the 8.9 will launch as "Google Experience Devices" whatever that means.

I have replied to this asking is that means they won't have Touchwiz on or not and are awaiting a reply, here's hoping they come without.

Which of the Samsung Twitters are you using?

Upon looking into what a "Google Experience Device" actually means it would appear the Tab 10.1 and 8.9 should come with only stock Android and no Samsung stuff. Hopefully this is indeed the case although I understand the I/O one does have some Samsung Hubs on there atleast according to some reviews I've seen. Perhaps Simulatorman can confirm?

Samsungservice in this instance.

The only Samsung additions are the Music Hub and Samsung Apps. The Apps is full of rubbish at the moment and I would expect that to change. There is no Readers Hub as there is on the Tab. A couple of Amazon apps and Quickoffice HD have been included. The system software updates have to be for a country, I set it to UK but will set it to US when I’ve finished playing with a reset. One thing it did do as soon as I was WiFi connected and accessed my account was to download most of my apps from the market.

Cheers for the info SM :)

If this had a USB port it could be a winner, but it will suffer from the same shortcoming that the iPad does - you have to use a cable to sync stuff to it so why not just use a laptop. Shame!

Also, two cameras. Does android have any mainstream video apps yet?

I think it comes with a USB adaptor to fit one of the connections, so you will have 1 USB2 connection if needed.

That looks really very nice. Now I'm almost done at uni I'm tempted to sell the netbook and get one of these, though I think I probably won't be able to afford one :(

Depends what you think you'll be using it for. If the price premium isn't massive, you may as well get 3G, though I guess you'll need a data plan as well? You could always tether your smartphone to the tablet using Mobile AP. If I had one, I'd only probably use it at home.

i have a paygo vodafone dongle, so i presume i could take the SIM card out and insert on there. Its one of the ones where the data does not expire, you can't get them anymore, £15 for a gig. so i presume if im careful with syncing i could make it last. Using wifi where possible.

but then i might be able to get a good contract and get the device for cheap, but not so keen on getting a 2nd contract to the phone.

I'm quite interested in this as might sell my Transformer and get one for the sleekness... But what processor will it be running, is it Tegra 2, also when are we getting it? (The slim version)... Also is the screen IPS or....

Pretty sure I'll get the 16GB Wifi and just tether to my SGS2 if I happen to be out and about and really need it for something I can't do on my phone already. Still 3GB data till upgrade in November so should be fine.

I really just want it to sit in bed and skype/browse etc, should be perfect.

It is running Tegra 2. The screen may well be PLS, it is super with its vibrant colours. As to release dates, the 8th of June for the US was the last known date. It may be a little later and there is the possibility that Europe may get it later but then not everyone was offered the 10.1V so we may see it at the same time.

Good, wanted to keep playing my tegra games :) PLS also sounds good, I gather we have no idea how much it will retail for in the UK? Might set some money aside for when it comes out, definitely looking good.

A few other questions actually... Does it have USB port(s) and mini hdmi?

Further, what about 720p/1080p playback?

No it doesn't. It uses a custom connector for a usb connection (used in the Galaxy Tab). I gather that there will be some form of add-on offering one or both connections. It supports HD playback.
