Samsung i7500 (Android)

just accidentally bidded on a ebay.de one that may well not deliver to the UK, bugger :/ have sent a google translated message saying that I'll pay the extra for it to be sent to the UK

I like the idea of a forum, and have the space, and i'm thinking of getting one of these phones asap, so i suppose if i start the forum i'll always have the first news lol

anyone think good/bad?

I've changed the windows transitions speed to 'fast' and also changed the overall font size to 'small' (using spareparts - an android market app). Its seems even faster now :-/

You can also add a few other transitions there.

So anyone have any idea when i can play with this in a shop? Was supposed to be released after the 10th August but haven't seen anything at all about it. I really want to have a play as I have tried the Iphone 3gs and the Hero and want to make a comparison.

About the memory again

Hi,

I also really like the Samsung smartphone, but I am really concerned about the size of RAM memory. I am tired of all the bull**** marketing statements "memory, usable by the applications" and so on. Nobody sells me a PC, saying "You have 1700 MB RAM, usable by applications (because the OS uses 300MB)". But enough with the ranting :)

Kam187:
So, as I understand from your post, the Samsung device you have has 192 MB RAM memory, and the HTC Hero has 288 MB. But there are places in the internet that say Samsung has 288MB RAM (i.e is identical to Hero. Is it possible that there are TWO types of Samsung Galaxy - with different amounts of memory? This has already happened once (with HTC Magic) that's why my hope is still not gone.

Regards,
dephlector

Yeah, and I'm still wondering when webshops will get the device in. Would like to see what their prices are like before I would attempt to order from Germany if it came much cheaper.

what it failed on? it's been comprehensively denied by o2 that it failed accreditation, it just came from some troll on the o2 forums.

Well it seems like the dummy handsets aren't on display in store any more so make of that what you will.

I think people are just confused by the way samsung 'clarified the confusion' lol.

You can see a screenshot taken of system monitor on both the Hero and Samsung here:

So in fact, I would say:

Total Memory: Hero 288mb, Samsung 192mb
Available for applications: Hero 192mb, Samsung 93mb

From my experiance of both phones....
Actual memory free on boot: Hero 60 to 70mb, Samsung 25 to 41mb

Is that fine for most Android applications? I have about 25MB free on WM6 and that is just enough to open a web browser or PDF but no memory left for anything else to be open.

Im really not sure why everyone is going on about the memory, I have 4 or 5 if not more apps open at the same time, it runs fine.

I have to say at first I was a bit worried about the memory. There would be times when I would see the memory drop to 7mb.

But then I realised this only happened when I was going app happy and launching loads of apps at the same time (5,6,7) - you know how it is when you first get your phone!

Even then It would manage the ram by itself. I'm actually now considering removing taskiller from my homescreen.

Uhh... read my post properly? If yes then you would notice where I was coming from... :/

But well, thanks kam187. I see that Android has no problems with memory management, unlike WM6, or that well, the apps are written better in general.
