Samsung i7500 (Android)

wasn't a stupid question, I hadn't. I found your post elsewhere with the settings :p working like a charm now

Hehe cool!

Remeber for better batter life:

- Turn off auto sync with google (down side is your mail won't auto sync)
- Turn off background data (down side is some widgets won't update automatically)
- Use 2g instead of 3g (downside slow data in browser etc, but you can put a toggle on your screen)
- Use mobile network for location and turn GPS off (downside less acurate location, but more than close enough for widgets etc. You can of course turn on GPS for navigation etc)

Of course choose yourself what you can or can't live without from the above.

I imagine I'd want all of those...What would we be looking at battery life wise?

Well if you plan to have 3g on and GPS on all the time it'll be less than a day. Pretty much the same with any smartphone.

Personally I don't use gmail for my email, I have pop3 and imap accounts for work etc. So I turn autosync off right away. I don't think the sync with gmail is very efficient at all.

Most of the widgets i use (like weather bug) work fine with background data off. I think anything you can set a schedule with will work, anything you can't set a schedule will stop working once you turn off background data. So I have that turned off all the time too.

Using 2g has always increased battery life significantly, and typically I have much better reception on 2g. So I have that off too, and a widget on my home screen to toggle to 3g just before i decide to use the browser.

I also don't need to know the weather within a meter of where I am :P so GPS is off, unless i'm using co pilot. Location by mobile network locates the street i'm on and even closer sometimes, which is more than enough for most widgets that show you stuff in the area.

With all the above OFF, and turned on as and when i need them i get a day and a half. I think thats pretty good considering we're loosing a lot of battery with this new dodgy firmware. Once they fix it, it should last over 2 days i think.

Just bought one for 410EUR from a German business seller. But damn, why must PayPal clearing take so long... ;_;

Pity the handset will arrive just when I'll be on my holiday, so I'll have to ask my folks to check it over when this baby comes in. :)

kam187, how long does the battery last if you listen to music quite heavily on it? Let's say make the device double like a music player for the day?

hmm, now I've got pc studio installed it won't connect, whether in debug mode or not the pc studio can see the phone but if I click on it it comes up saying unsupported device :(

Really torn with this phone.....it's practically the same cost as the iPhone 3GS. I really like the camera on it, and the test shots look awesome...Also, I really need push for Gmail and calendar as well, so that would be well used.

It's just a bit of a gamble with the Samsung firmware/suppore and on Android itself I suppose?

Did you update your firmware? If yes (Ends in G6) then there's nothing you can do till they release some new firmware. Yeah its shocking they havnt fixed this already! If not, then check device manager that all the drivers are installed. Also it won't work on windows 7 (not sure about vista 64, but vista 32 is ok)

You can find it for ~ 320 euro's plus 18 shipping to the UK/europe on ebay. That's people who received it as an upgrade and are selling it. Otherwise its about 400 euro's now plus shipping.

It should be out in the UK this week. I'd advise you to check it out in a shop. I'm sure you'll love it :P

320Euro's?! ebay.co.uk only shows 3 starting at £450! E-mail in trust my good man, e-mail in trust!

Also - do they sell them in France? I am going over there tomorrow, so could buy one SIM free if they do...

ebay.de

@kam187 as mentioned above my baseband version is XXIFF, I am on Vista 64 though, which could be the problem, I'll have to give it a go on my laptop, just need to install it without the CD :/

They do sell them in france, but I think sim free ones are a crazy price.

You need to check ebay.de, there's quite a few there, but a lot get bid up. It really depends on if you catch someone who got it on upgrade and doesnt really know they could get 400 euro's for it :P

cheers man, I'll give it a go when I'm at my laptop

new firmware!!! Well I7500XEIH2 was found here, and it can be flashed using odin. I have to say its flying with this new firmware.

New PC suite still doesnt work, and I've only had it on for 5 minutes so I don't know if the reboot stuff is fixed either.

FYI. Firmware was found here:

http://firmware.javer.sgh.ru

Direct link: http://firmware.javer.sgh.ru/?frm=I7500XEIH2&t=4

You need to download odin from here:

http://rapidshare.com/files/265784315/MultiOdin_v3.95.zip

1) Put the phone in download mode (with the phone powered off press VOLUME DOWN key + OK + power on)
--- The phone will show you a download mode icon ---
2) Open Odin Multi Loader
3) select OPS (You'll find this in the odin folder)
4) select boot, phone and pda tar files
5) just press start and enjoy!

Don't select the CSC file or you'll get their operator branding (russian). If you don't select it your phone will be unbranded!

Remember you'll loose all your settings and data, so backup or something.

Thanks for vap1d who found the firmware!

Changes noticed so far:

- Its a lot faster
- There's now 45mb free memory from boot
- That anoying lock button thing is fixed (where if you press the unlock button for more than a second, but not long enough to unlock it, it displays the lock screen, but if you then decide to unlock it, you need to release the button for 2 seconds and then long press)

Also an FYI

The 1 click root method ( http://www.ryebrye.com/blog/2009/08/16/android-rooting-in-1-click-in-progress/ ) works! I used it with both the original firmware before flashing this new one and then with the new one (I wanted to get nandroid backups before flashing this new firmware and additionally 1 click root will allow you to backup your original recovery image)

It's very easy if you've been afraid to root..
Grab the latest version of the recovery image from http://forum.hdblog.it
Copy both the recovery.img and rectools.tar.gz to the root of your internal sdcard memory.
Install then run the Recovery Flasher app.
Click Backup (it will backup your original recovery)
In the text box type /sdcard/recovery.img
Click Flash

When it is done power off then power on with VOL DOWN + CALL + POWER to start recovery mode. Here you can run a nandroid backup as well as enable SU. Whole process took a few minutes!

Honestly I don't get it, im really tempted to go for the HTC Hero except for T-Mobile and Orange are two providers I cant stand. (mainly due to crap all signal) Can't afford to buy the Galaxy on ebay :(

I have the g2 on order with t-mobile, i still would like the galaxy but i figure once its out i could sell the g2 and get the galaxy... not such a great idea if u want to be on o2 tho

Yeah my current phone is with Orange, and my previous phone was with T-Mobile, have had pretty bad signal with both. I live in the sticks i'll admit, but seeing my dads Vodafone and my sister on O2 with both with 4-5 bars makes me sad :( Seriously if some one calls me on my mobile, I have to shove my head out the window...Hurry up O2....for my sanity's sake.

I need some help re buying from ebay.de.

I have seen an i7500 at 369 euros but the seller doesn't mention whether they post to the UK, so I thought I would ask them the question. However ebay.de then asks me to login. I tried to click the "Purchase Immediately" button but the same thing happens.

It won't accept my UK login details (as I expected) and trying to register on the site only allows German addresses!

So the question is how did you manage to complete your purchase?

Also the seller allows payment through Paypal, but I suspect I may have the same problem with them in that it won't recognise my UK login.

Can anyone confirm that they have been able to use Paypal successfully on the ebay.de site?

Thanks for any help you can give!
