Samsung LS34E790C - Curved 34" 21:9 super-wide

I just got this monitor today and apart from the text on my browser, FireFox, it seems all good. Would you mind telling me what extension you used please ? Because the text right now looks bad, although might also be with me using the default browser

Theme Font & Size Changer. I changed the colour from black to dark gray so Firefox's fonts look better. Shame I can't adjust actual website fonts colours though. Getting the calibration right seems to make fonts better - maybe something to do with weird shaped pixels on this panel?

I've got my OSD settings looking great now. Any comments I made before about some images looking muddy, I take back. I've edited my amateur mini review on page 23 to reflect that. BTW: I started off with Cool 1 as my baseline and tweaked from there.

I'm getting a Spyder4Express delivered this afternoon, but after PCM2's comment above..... :) Those things are easy to sell on with no loss I suppose.

@old gamer: read this about enforcing ICC profiles.

PMC2 - Thanks, will have a look at it once back home from work. Uhmm just one question more.. is ClearType a Windows thing ? Using Win7 if that matters... :o

SaL<XXX - Cheers, will try it out later. Much appreciated though! :)

Right now I'm using the HDMI cable, does that matter much compared to using the DP cable ??

Can't say I noticed any issue with the fonts and letters on mine....I do use internet explorer though. I noticed the text went weird when I overclocked the monitor to 75hz but soon as I put it back to 60 it looked great.
I personally think calibration is worth it when your spending so much on a monitor. Obviously its aimed more towards movie watching and photography but it can make a good difference in games too when you have colours looking perfect.
Will have my new monitor tomorrow so will be able to compare it with the previous one and hopefully theres no new issues.
Swede you have to use the DP cable.. HDMI only gives 50hz at 3440x1440 I think...

Colorimeters can be useful for helping to balance the colour channels on the monitors OSD, if nothing else. I'm not sure the Spyder4Express actually gives you the feedback to do that though.

ClearType is a Windows thing, yes. If you type it into the control panel search box on Windows 7 you should be able to find it.

I'm not sure if it will help with the Firefox issue as I think it might use its own fonts system, but in general I found text improved by fiddling with ClearType settings. I ran through the wizard and selected the following boxes:

1 - 2 - 1 - 2 - 3

I haven't really played around since. That may not be optimal for all users, but it seems to have improved things over default for me quite considerably.

Thanks, did find it but I only got 4 Text Samples to look through ? Will have a play through with them though, your first 4 was what it preselected for me. :D

Thanks, I downloaded the Theme Font & Size Changer, incresed Zoom to 110 and then changed the font size and that was a good improvement, although typing this could do with a look over as well but at least I can see the Tab's etc on the browser better, and the posts/text on web sites. :D

Yeah, HDMI gives 50hz and DP gives 60hz.. problem is I got a couple more monitors connected to the PC and those was on a DP switch (since the card only have 1 DP port) and tried with the DP switch on the 2nd card but no luck. Is it even possible to run monitors from the 2nd card as well ??
If not got to rethink how to connect it all up. =)

Maybe they added an extra stage on Windows 8 then. Interesting. And I was able to run at 60Hz over HDMI by setting a custom resolution. That might help you out if you need to use HDMI.

Can anybody else with Windows 7 confirm that ClearType uses 1 - 2 - 1 - 2 for the boxes by default?

How are you finding the monitor compared to the Philips 40 inch VA panel PCM2? That was my other option but it was just too big for me.

@PCM2: Windows 7 defaults to 1-2-1-2 choices with the boxes.

Anybody - what is the closest to 6500k in the OSD settings, normal, cool or warm? Also, I know this is a WLED backlit monitor, but is it wide or normal gamut?

Thanks PCM2, I did try and disable Crossfire and that made the other screens working on 2nd card and since I only need Crossfire when playing a game I be fine with that. Have to dissconnect the screens anyway if running more then 1 when playing a game in Crossfire since getting Sound Artefacts otherwise. So using the enable/disable funcion in CCC works fine for me. :)

Well I got me new one an hour ago. Firstly they put the wrong plug adaptor inside the box lol It was the one with 3 holes on the end instead of two so I had to ring about that.
Secondly I have two dead pixels that I can see and that dust under the screen thing that Skarpinis and Timbooo have.
The worst part about it is that theres no freaking red tint on this one too! At least no where near as noticible as my last one so it would have been perfect.

Sorry to hear that Matson.... groan. I'd assume they'd at least take it back with those flaws?

FYI all: http://blog.datacolor.com/david-cardinal-profiling-a-curved-monitor-or-tv-with-datacolors-spyder4/

My Spyder4 Express really is a basic model and can't do what this guy is suggesting, nor allow me to adjust the RGB settings in the OSD by measurement as PCM2 suggested. So far with this thing, the colours look great but the device is setting the gamma to high. Sidenote: the Spyder actually works with the 3rd party basiCColour Display software which is pretty technical.

Here's my results (somehow I think 100% is pushing it - that Russian review measured 99.2% with far better hardware/criteria):

Yeah they have already setup for collection on Monday and an instant replacement. Its very frustrating as I cant notice the red tint on this on so it gives me up that its not an issue on all of these.

Here is a close up of the black thing under the screen. As you can see its the same as what the others have.

wow that's quite a difference isn't it?
Even though im sending my monitor back because of the dead pixels ect I wanted to calibrate and test the contrast ratio compared to my last one.

My last one was between 1700 and 1800 when calibrated.
This one has a contrast ratio of 2251:1

If PCM2 can reply to this...why is the difference so big? I expect some deviation between the same screen but a difference of 500 seems pretty big to me and more inline with what that Korean review had.

What white luminance and black luminance are you getting and how are you recording these values? :)
