** SAMSUNG & OcUK CARTEL: FREESYNC & MORE CURVED DISPLAYS!! **

I read this somewhere on a German forum that Samsung started to use the same controllers/CPU for both. You can see on the FCC site the controller board and compare it to the old one. If Sammy still produces the old one then it makes cost cutting sense using the same controller panel in both if they can simplify production.

In that case if someone can figure out how to pull the firmware of the new one, make it public along with a flashing programme in theory people could update their Samsung 4k displays to support Freesync.......

Show me a link please of which competitor is also listing these in the UK, I am seeing nothing apart from a few feeders just listing product title with no spec or no images.

Your first and second image is 100% sure not the U24E590D. I posted the images of the actual unit a while back (see the link to FCC where I joke how badly they looked). Those were actual pictures. It is actually easy to identify them because Samsung changed the wobbly T leg. They made it wider and deeper.

I am not sure it is a good idea posting links to your competitors that are much cheaper. They are located outside of the UK but ship into the UK and offer same type of collection in case something goes wrong. (Let's not open again the same can of worms...)

Feel free to post them up as I already openly said, our pricing is yet to be finalised as UK pricing is being decided in the next few hours in London. :)

I think it would be worth finding out whether a complete board change would do the trick for those who have the U28D590? The boards probably can be sourced?

Here is the board of the U28E590D

One more thing, I think a simple flash will not do the trick because the new 2015 models have different HDMI (A=1.4b and B=2.0) ports. This may well required change in the circuit board. The two has to be compared. However, if the panel is the same and the physical layout is the same then it is possible to swap the board instead. (I am not an expert and just speculating here.)

The Samsung U24E590D says panel type PLS....that's not correct is it?

On the new models is its PLS and is that like IPS?

Yes, it is going to be a Samsung AD-PLS panel. Here is a link I found useful about the various panel techs. Here
On the other hand, the product specs are definitely not correct. For example, the HDMI ports are 1.4 and version 2.0 while it only lists the 30Hz 4K (1.4). Also, I think the colour support of 16.7M may well be 1bn because Samsung multiple times stated that all the UE590 and UE850 series will have that specs. I guess OcUK had a really first draft of the specs.

We go of the technical documents they send us which stated TN versions have 1B colour support and PLS 16.7m could be wrong but best to advertise the lesser and then if it's better no one complains about getting something better.

Are you going to post up these links from the companies selling this monitor in the EU?

Differences with 850 version is chassis, USB hub, 3yr instead of 2yr warranty and of course the gorgeous 31.5" model oh and they cost more. :)

It is correct. It is a Samsung PLS 23.6" panel which is IPS-type (i.e. for all intents and purposes performs like IPS).

Is it possible that Sammy will go with 8-bit+FRC and 10-bit panels to have 1bn colours? I wonder why they would have 2 different ones (28in 1bn vs 23.6in 16.7M)

The panels are completely different and have different capabilities. All current 23.6" PLS panels are actually 6-bit + FRC. This could be different, but regardless of this they still produce colours more consistently and accurately than a 10-bit TN panel anyway. :p

And the new 28in 590 will be 1/2 kg heavier. I wonder maybe this is due to the revised T-shaped stand. (?)

Ok, I got it. I was just wondering because nobody uses at the moment the 23.6 4K panel from Samsung. (I think there are 2 Acers coming with that but not sure.) If it's a completely new panel then we need to wait and see it.

The FreeSync monitor of my dreams has arrived.:cool:

Very much tempted with the Samsung U32E850R.

Looks like a tweaked U32D97KQSR, with this being more suited for gaming with a faster display and giving good colour still as pls does, albeit only sRGB which is good enough for 99.9% of people. Does not have hardware calibration like the U32D97KQSR. Software calibration will have to do!

Could be a really nice screen as long as the whites are nice and uniform and no bleed.

Just sent back a LG 31MU97 due to terrible white balance, half of the screen had a yellow cast on it which (now I've done some research) seems to be a big problem for them. No wonder they are on offer atm! lol

I do love 4k gaming (let a alone the desktop work space) though and very surprised how well my single overclocked GTX980 ran BF4 Ultra settings with no AA. It's nothing like as bad people make out.
