** SAMSUNG & OcUK CARTEL: FREESYNC & MORE CURVED DISPLAYS!! **

Anyone got one of these and what do they think ?

What are the differences between

Samsung U24E590D 4k 24" FREESYNC Gaming Widescreen LED Monitor - Black @ £399.95 inc VAT

and

Samsung U24E850R 4k 24" FREESYNC Gaming Widescreen LED Monitor - Black @ £499.99 inc VAT

If i wanted to run my monitor at 4k and a TV at 4k off the same graphics card.. what problems am i likely to have ? It says you can only do 4k with some of them using the display port ? can i use the HDMI for the TV @ 4K ?

None of these latest monitors seem to even have DVI anymore do they ?

Personally I dont think you are going to get the full benefit of 4k at 24". You need to at least think about 27"/28" as the extra length does make a difference to your viewing/image if sat about a metre away.

Wait im confused by the U32E850R...

Features:
- Fast 1ms Response Time: See even the fastest on-screen motion clearly without any motion blur, judder or ghosting
Upgraded HDMI Support: With an upgraded HDMI that supports UHD resolutions at a 60Hz refresh rate, 4K content plays smoothly without delay, even when connected to AV devices.
- Quad Interface: Provides seamless connectivity with your PC and AV equipment with 2 different HDMI ports, DisplayPort 1.2, and Mini DisplayPort (also supports Thunderbolt).

Then in the specification:
- Resolution: 3840x2160 (Only over DisplayPort at 60Hz)
- Response Time: 4ms (GTG)
- Connectivity: 1x HDMI (30Hz), 1x DisplayPort (60Hz)

The U28 and U32 also feature an additional HDMI 2.0 port, which supports 3840 x 2160 @ 60Hz (vs. 30Hz for HDMI 1.4a)

Bah, 60Hz... when will Samsung be putting out Freesync at 144Hz? I've always had positive experience with their screens, and they do good subtle design also.

I love looking so close to my S4 that I can't see any pixies, looking forward to the day I can run a monitor that is capable of doing this :)

I think it would be worth finding out whether a complete board change would do the trick for those who have the U28D590? The boards probably can be sourced?

Here is the board of the U28E590D

I have a U28D590, and from memory, the board looks the same.

Do you have a way to dump the firmware (most likely on an so-8 spi flash, usually has a "25" in the first few digits of the part number) and I can try it on the ud590 board?

Gibbo (or anyone) find out if the U28D was flashable to U28E to allow freesync? I keep seeing "maybe" around various places but nothing definitive. I'll happily test it if someone can get me the E's firmware :P

No. I think the board is different but the panel is the same. Here is a link with pictures to the internal components of the U28E590D. You can compare it with yours. What I heard is that parts can be sourced.
I hope this helps. ;) Please keep the forum updated about your progress.

Is there STILL no Samsung Ultrawide monitor with Freesync?

I know Acer has one coming, but with Acer being Acer, I really don't think it should command the price of £800.

I still don't understanding why Samsung decided to release the Samsung S34E790C without Freesync...

The S34E790C was in late development this time last year, when no FreeSync controllers were available for such a model. I expect them to have an UltraWide model with such capabilities and increased refresh rate possibly for early next year. But this is just speculation. ;)

Whilst we are on the subject of Samsung monitors and Freesync, would you happen to know the Freesync range of the Samsung U24E590D/U24E850R? Can't seem to find information anywhere regarding this.
