Samsung RF711 Graphic issue.

Tough one, but, have a look here: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/consumer-rights-refunds-exchange. How strongly do you feel about it? You can play the game on the external monitor. Is that a bind? Do you do lots of other things on the machine and they are fine? So, can you live with that? On the other hand if this is a really big part of what you bought the machine for then it is clearly faulty, their 4 day attempt to fix it is clear evidence, they could not fix it, in fact we know they can't from our research so far. I'd get my argument lined up and not take no for an answer on a swap for something else, but even so, if there is nothing suitable, a refund. Its up to you though, I'm just on a high horse there, you choose.

I am actually gonna keep it. It's a great laptop for it's spec and for it's price.

Eventually, Hopefully Intel will release drivers to fix the issue sooner than later. I am really happy with the laptop just a small single problem which is not worth taking back afterall the price was very good.

Sounds good to me; I'll have a go at the game when mine arrives (although I'm not much of a game player) so we can verify the issue.

Perfect, even if you manage to sort it let me know each drivers and version settings etc. do you have msn messenger? When is the delivery date for your laptop?

I'm hoping it'll be here this week, I don't have a guaranteed date. No, I don't use MSNM. In any case my config at the mo is pretty weak due to my current machine (Dell 1557) just limping along. The 1557 was a real disaster, an i7 processor and not bad GPU with ineffective cooling...hope I am not jumping out of the frying pan into the fire! If I put too much into this current rig I just blue screen all the time. Keep an eye on this thread and I'll report back when I have any news, it won't be long.

I had a play with Tiberian sun on the 700G7A today. Was fine on the main LCD but it didn't like switching to an external monitor and back again. When switching I had to alt+tab back to the desktop and then back to the game to refresh the screen but was fine after that

It didn't like to run in dual display mode at all (LCD + external VGA on extended desktop).

Have you tried running it in windowed mode? Create a shortcut in the main exe folder with the -win option:

"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Command & Conquer The First Decade\Command & Conquer(tm) Tiberian Sun(tm)\SUN\Game.exe" -win

Note that the registry options expect this to be in Program Files (not program files (x86) as mentioned before.

Hi. What graphics are you running?

I will try to install the game on program file not x86 and get back to you.

As for windows mode the game is very old and requries 16 bit, yes I have tried that and also tried VMWARE XP... but on VMware the screen goes black but however clicking options, internet etc is all fine...

Hi, Still getting the grey bars even in Program Files minus x86.

Mine works fine on External monitor VGA and doesn't work on LCD aptop monitor. I am baffled in why it's not working and still no reply from Intel Support Forums...

Did you get the grey bars while switching over?

no I got incomplete screen rendering but alt-tab sorted it.

I think it's time to give up on this game :) It is over 11 years old now :)

This is on the 700G7A with the Radeon 6970M. Yeah I had to drop the colour depth to 16bits on advanced settings to get it running in a window.

I doubt it's anything to do with the x86 location but that is where it tries to register the dll.

Solved... Well not quite but kinda…

Ok, So I heard about Windows 8 so I downloaded it and accidently installed it onto my C:/ as it didn't ask me to install it on a different partition especially for Win 8. So anyway it installed fine ( Where's the bloody start menu on Windows 8 ) it sucks without start menu...

Anyways I tried to load Tiberian Sun on Win 8 and used full screen, I get those invisible clicks ie click on stuff nothing popped up just a flicker of screen. So tried to change all the graphic settings nothing... So I figured I would try to start in -win mode and 16 bit... in Game.exe there is an option to choose 16 bit... Very smart move by Microsoft. There is no 16 bit on Display properties though.

It worked fine... WTF? Now I am looking forward to get Windows 8 woot woot !!!

I am not sure why Win 7 doesn't work and Win 8 does? I am at lost.

Hi Lurkybaby; just a note to say I've had to cancel my RF711 order; absolutely no sign of the laptop after a fortnight and no prospect of when they could deliver. I'm going to take another look at the market, could well end up ordering same again, it is a great machine, but for now I can't help with a duplication of your issue.

Hello,

I admit I don't have the laptop but I have had experience about getting old games to work on newer computers. The fact it works in external which I guess the 540 powers again leans towards intel. I there an option anywhere in windows 7 to change the amount of graphic acceralation like in xp?

A few things that gave worked in the past for me:

- Have you tried installing XP and seeing if that works?

- a no-cd patch

- an older version of the driver

- low resolution full maxes AA

Let me know

J
