** SAMSUNG: WARP SPEED CAPTAIN, ENGAGE!!!! **

Well with mine on my MSI Z97M i was getting read and writes around 750mbs using the m.2 slot with the 250GB SSD. I since got a PCI-E add in card and stuck it in that which gives 1750mbs read and 1250mbs write.

Sexy. I'm feeling the lure...

Are these 140,000 IOPS or below 100,000 ? If below then not much point for me, would need something a ton faster over my 840 pro to be worth it especially if a big difference in loading games.. TBH probably don't even need it, i shouldn't be looking :D

If you want faster loads then you're probably better buying another (and cheaper) 840 and RAIDing them

Using a 256gb on a ROG R5E board (x99) and very happy so far

Install wasn't exactly straight forward but not too bad once i had read a guide on uefi install using a usb 3 bootable stick

windows 8.1 installed in 4 mins ;)

coming from a evo 840 500gb i can say the difference isn't night and day like my first ssd was but it has definitely given everything a nice boost.

nice price

You got it to work as a boot drive okay using a card then?

Yup can be abit moody if I switch between booting from that and my sata drive which means a reset of cmos but as soon as w10 is out properly I will only be using the m.2 so won't be a problem.

Hi all
Has anyone tried cloning say a 500gb ssd over to one of these?
If so is it straight forward or am I better doing a fresh install

Will this be fine in my Asus z97i-plus? it says the m.2 slot type is type 3 but what will I get performance wise with the pcie lanes etc? and will it be okay as a boot drive (windows 10)

According to the product page https://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/Z97IPLUS/

The m.2 slot is capable up to 10Gb/s and not 32Gb/s so looks like it's using the 2nd gen PCIe slots from the PCH which is slower, so you wouldn't get max speed on that motherboard.

I think only x99 boards have the faster slots right now, usually marked ultra m.2 (turbo or other names currently appear to usually be the slower slots). I think asrock might make a z97 board with an ultra m.2 but I'd have to double check to be certain.

Yeah I thought so, still might get one as it will be faster than my ocz ssds I have already, I'll use them for storage and the m.2 for window's 10 and steam

They do the ASRock Mod 1150 Z97 Extreme6 ATX Motherboard, it has two M.2 slots on the board one of which is Ultra. (I really wish a mATX version of this board existed with just a single Ultra M.2 slot)
