I bought one a few days ago (512GB) and I'm just waiting for my new PC to arrive before giving a go but seeing these sort of numbers IRL (rather than any from Samsung which could be "smudged") makes me glad I chose it.

A 256GB SM951 on my X99 (Asrock X99M Killer Fatal1ty Killer) with an 'Ultra' M.2 slot.

Windows 8 new install, hardly any drivers, no tweaks, first time the drive was used.

Very nice speeds indeed :)

Wanted to share my experience with these now, bought a 512GB version and am loving it! Windows install was easy and is super fast, can't even go downstairs to get a drink now as it's too fast!

Here is the performance test from Samsung Magician:

Bodster can I ask what motherboard you are using and if you had any problems using the SM951 as a boot drive?

Hi mate, of course.

I currently use an Asus X-99 Deluxe with the latest available BIOS. Using the SM951 as a boot drive was a breeze, haven't had any issues with it post install either.

I followed a video called 'How to Install Windows on an M.2 SSD SM951 or XP941' on youtube just to be sure and there was a section there with a couple of settings to tweak in the bios (It just so happened his motherboard was the same as mine), but i hadn't tried installing before this guide so not sure if it made a difference or not.

Looking to get one of these for my X99 build. Which I would be putting Win 7 Pro X64 on until Windows 10 is out otherwise I will have to buy Windows 8.

Can I put Win 7 on one of these drives?

the slot for these on my board appears to be sandwiched between the slots I would use for SLI. Would this suffer being sandwiched in between?

You mean a m.2 connector? It is on mine but due to not having X99 I bought a PCI-E adaptor to get closer to full speeds. Otherwise I dont foresee a problem.

Nope. It would be fine. (I've done it)

Thanks.

I'm a bit confused at the numbers here.
My slot is rated at 10Gb/s which would indicate 1250MB/s max, yet these drives rated at 8Gb/s are supposed to, in the case of the 256GB card, get 2150MB/s read?

Well with mine on my MSI Z97M i was getting read and writes around 750mbs using the m.2 slot with the 250GB SSD. I since got a PCI-E add in card and stuck it in that which gives 1750mbs read and 1250mbs write.

Are these 140,000 IOPS or below 100,000 ? If below then not much point for me, would need something a ton faster over my 840 pro to be worth it especially if a big difference in loading games.. TBH probably don't even need it, i shouldn't be looking :D
