Sandy Bridge Reviews

For normal Monday deliveries don't you have to order by 14:00 Friday? If so I hope they have them for pre order Thursday night

Looks like the current socket 1156 Core i3 processors are probably a better purchase than many people suspected. A socket 1156 Core i3 at around 3.8GHZ to 4.0GHZ would probably be much faster than a Core i3 2100 and also probably would be cheaper when motherboard costs are included too.

The socket Core i3 processors could also be overclocked using some of the cheaper H55 motherboards too.

TBH,AMD need to get Llano and Bulldozer out as soon as possible.

You only have to look at how the prices of graphics cards have dropped in the last few months to see how competition is important to get the best value for money for the consumer.

Tempted to finally replace my Q6600, it's been a good-ol-warhorse but I think it might be time to put it out to pasture ;)

For people thinking the 2600k is better than the 980x.... don't be so ridiculous. The only time the 2600k pulls ahead of the 980x is when all 6 cores aren't being used. Overall the 980x is still the best CPU by a country mile.

I'm not that impressed with Sandybridge, clock for clock it seems to only be about 1-10% (for the most part) faster clock for clock than Nehalem. The only benefit I see with these are that they max out higher frequencies.

And I cringe whenever I see people spouting nonsense like "5Ghz on air is EASY", what? easy? Sure it is easy if you like replacing your chip every couple months. Realistically SB will max out at about 4.5Ghz with reasonable volts.

Bring on Ivybridge & Bulldozer!

i know which i would have £ for £

all the best mike

HERE

but then im a yorkshireman :D

Out of interest, do you need the increased performance? Or is this because you have some money to burn and like new tech :D

I could certainly use some more performance now. I think the 8500 even at 4.2, is getting to the point where it is going to start to struggle with some future games. Obviously not the next COD title, but I'm using things like FSX which absolutely drains a CPU. I assume the next flight sim title will be similar and as I'm the sort of person who keeps a system for a good few years, it will be a good investment for me to upgrade when these chips come out.

The performance to cost ratio of upgrading from an overclocked 775 chip to an i5/i7 just wasn't worth it. If we're talking over 4.5 with these things though then it's a done deal.

Right now, the stingy in me is coming out.

I'm highly considering just going with an I5 760, it saves about 100 pounds. With that money, I can save it for Ivy Bridge, and just sell the I5 MB and CPU...

The thought of maxing out fsx is way too tempting. An overclocked 2500k should have that game for breakfast.
