Sandybridge design flaw recalls beginning!!

Wow, really feel for the Sandy Owners there will be a lot of peeps worried until they find out the proper outcome but it will get sorted, was really enjoying the Sandys competing to get the highest overclock. But to be honest l would certinly not buy a sandy bundle knowing it was faulty, l bet they will have a few set ups running 24/7 to see really what will happen and to see what fails even after Intel have sorted things out. To be honest when have you heard of companies still selling faulty goods, it must be better for Intel to say keep selling bringing in the Doller than nothing at all to help keep the loses down.

Well I'm a Sandy owner and I'm happy as larry and frankly couldn't care less about this because I only use Sata ports 0 and 1. If I have the option to RMA and get a new board then of course I'll probably take that option, mainly because there may be warranty issues with current ('faulty') boards in the future rather than a neccesity to change it. Until the new boards are available I have no doubt I'll be able to carry on using my system without issue . Honestly I really aren't that bothered about this news, comes with the territory I suppose and it's not that big a deal as the 6GB Sata ports aren't affected.

This is a point - we need to be demanding CPU cleaner and thermal paste, too :D

Yeah we should be, lucky enough I have paste already and don't mind reapplying, I don't want to but don't mind...

I've been meaning to buy some IPA for a while so will order some now ready, and lint free microfibre cloths..

Laurence, don't be too hasty. They may well give you a refund for the motherboard... I don't know about the CPU, it isn't faulty.

However they don't have another motherboard to replace it with. They won't be any until March/April.

As it stands tonight with the information available the fault is only on Sata ports 2,3,4,5. You can still use 0 and 1 without problems.

True, I will carry on using my PC for now until everything has been finalised, when everyone is ready I'm swapping out!!

Sounds like the processors are fine so that's good!

feel for the SB users etc...

Why do you feel sorry for us? I can't say I've seen one SB owner that has expressed even the slightest bit of concern.

I'm not worried - my computer works just fine, and in fact, I don't think I've even got anything plugged in to any of the ports in question.

If an RMA is offered, I will probably take it for the sake of having something that is fully working, but I won't even be that fussed if no RMA is offered, tbh.

Yeah But

Sandy .. Bridge?

A Bridge. Made of Sand???

Would you walk across it?

Or would you need to be pushed?

At 5.1Ghz ill be over the bridge and into the village before it collapses :P

FYI - the only people that have any issue with this are the people that DONT have a SB rig..

Why do people keep saying this?

This is the SECOND GENERATION Core i5/i7 platform. It is not first generation hardware. Sure the chipset is new but then that goes for almost every chipset around!

Actually Sandy Bridge is a new generation, and Ivy Bridge will be its' second generation. Westmere was the second generation of Nehalem. Core iX is just a brand name a not relevant to the microartcitecture.

or in short..

Yeh I've got to say it'll be a reluctant return when the change takes place. I'm really pleased with my setup and don't really want to change. It's just the resale value I'm concerned about, so it's only for that reason I'll probably send it back.

Uh oh, from a manufacturers web forum

Well I can confirm the symptoms of the errors on my board. I just thought it was a hard drive starting to fail, which I did think was weird because it worked fine on my last system and is less than a year old. Was moving all the files off it onto another one too.
