Sapphire AMD Deals

I installed the 7900 XT Pulse yesterday and all went smoothly. Some big performance jumps from the 3070, and the only niggle so far to try and sort is the VR - using a Quest 2 and Airlink I'm getting the visual distortion on the right side of the display that seems to be a known issue, with fixes I just haven't had time to try yet.

Card seems nice and quiet, and although a tighter squeeze than the 3070 FE it fit in my old Fractal Define R4 case without a problem.

Yeh can't say I'm a big fan of DLSS or RT but at those sorts of prices I'm the first place 70 quid is worth it for those features.

I did notice there was an offer on a 4080 for 999

Unfortunate the XT and XTX pulse price increased though exchange rate has gone the other way which likely explains most of it.
Starfield is back which helps the value proposition, hopefully no-one buying a 4080 for the overwatch bundle.

XT is a definite pick over the 4070Ti with just 12GB in most cases, XTX vs 4080 is now closer than it has been for a while though would be good to see the 4080 drop a bit more below £1000 as it's still less bang per buck than the 4090.
Interesting the Zotac is back to £1050 now the Gainwood 4080 is in stock, not sure if the sales are high or if OC just looking to have a sub £1000 model to attract buyers.

That we are getting some deals the high end cards, does at least make me think the 'AI shortage' is FUD or these would be entering other channels instead of selling below MSRP.

That's the one issue for me that makes me hesitate for 7900, I do use airlink with the Quest and I remember the frustrations of or repeatedly plugging an replugging the Rift S until it finally worked and then I'd wasted half the 'gaming' evening before getting started. Not sure I want to be back there. I have seen the AMD drivers have improved and VR issues fixed in a number of games but I haven't seen a complete compelling review that says all is good and there doesn't seem that much VR review content, at least in my current feed.

@decto @tomd96 ive done a lot of testing with my new 7900XT and quest 2. I play wired though. The only setting that seems to introduce artifacting is the ASW, which I turn off now. Im playing MSFS a lot, and with the render resolution in Oculus maxed out at 1.4x, I can still obtain nearly 80fps on mostly high settings in game. Which I think is pretty strong performance in a game like that. I need to try some other games next but haven't had time.

It is so close to continuous 80fps performance. I can imagine a 4090 would do it (assuming its the GPU and not my CPU that is holding MSFS back). But despite being tempted I couldn't justify double the cost. Im happy with the 7900 XT as a mostly VR gamer. All I would need to do in MSFS is dial down settings a tad and I can get 80 fps locked, but Im trying my best to get sharp visuals in that game.

Switching from Airlink to Virtual Desktop seems to have sorted my initial issues with VR and I've resumed my Alyx playthrough! I haven't had a lot of time for testing but so far I'm pleased with the upgrade :)

One of the reasons why i jumped on a 4090 instead, i know Nvidia just seems to work quite smoothly with my 3090 so the uplift with the 4090 should be substantial. Not had time to test it out yet though.

Fortunately switching from Air Link to Virtual Desktop has completely solved the issue I was having, so the extra ~£850 (excluding the almost certain need for a new PSU and probably a new case) for a 4090 wouldn't have been worth it for me. Time will tell if I'm happy with the 7900 XT overall, but for now it's made a good early impression and feels like a real upgrade from the 3070.

Running fine on my Pico I might even finish a play through, using virtual desk top, 7900xt

Not getting at anyone on this thread but so many people get an issue “they didn’t have with Nvidia” and conclude “must be AMD drivers”. The fact a few minutes triaging is enough the resolve seems either too much hassle, or simply beyond them. Or they just ignore AMD as an option “cus reasons”.

Kudos to you for being rational and a true PC enthusiast who has some gumption.

There was one flight sim site the resident self proclaimed experts insisted AMD was a waste of money and so much worse than Nvidia. I could not convince them they were wrong, no matter how often I showed my AMD GPU was doing perfectly well and comparable to a contemporary Nvidia GPU, even in VR.

What happened to the Sapphire 7900 xt deals , did these cards all sell-out after the announcement of the 7800 xt? or are they just unavailable from OCUK for some reason?
