** SAPPHIRE R290 PRO REVIEW & 1000+ IN STOCK!! **

Good stuff once again gibbo!
As tempting it may be I'm still going to be patient and wait for custom cooled 290/290x's since I'm a newb and I don't wanna be custom water cooling anytime soon

why do people insist on posting the same comment over and over, we know its loud it's a bloody reference AMD cooler. All the reference AMD coolers are loud stop pointing out the obvious and go away.

It's loud, it's hot but it dishes out more performance for the money spent than other cards on the market, the people buying them know the score.

Would you buy one? oh wait you will reply I will when the non reference card are out

I know they're loud, I know they're hot, but I'm still very very tempted!

Of course that's Tom's Hardware review didn't inspire me any, especially the bit where the press release 290X outperforms the retail version quite a bit.

These new AMD coolers do seem even less adequate for cooling the GPU's than previous generation coolers though. Not because the design is worse, but just because the chips output so much more heat energy.

Although these cards price/performance ratio is incredible I would never get something so loud in my system.

Radeon R9 290 - Metro Last Light Gaming Loop - 47% Fan Speed With New Driver

You can actually hear in the video that thing sounds like a leaf blower at 47% fan speed

What a stupid article.

"here is what they could have done", and they will do... after market coolers will come later as always.

They use reference blower coolers to start with for a reason (think about it and I'm sure the obvious will dawn) even if they are a little louder.

The fact that its cheaper to manufacture, they know people will buy them on release anyway, it encourages third parties to make aftermarket coolers and encourages people to buy waterblocks thus increasing their royalty pay-cheques?

But what about a few years ago when reference coolers were still quite loud and shoddy, and after-market cooler designs were comparatively few and far between?

If i was buying right now i would buy the 290pro as it makes no difference to me how loud anything in my system while gaming as i cant hear it while i have my headset on.

How do they compare to 7970 ?
would 550W be enough?

and are there WC blocks on the market already ?

have to reinstall windows and run benchmarks on mine to see if it is worth the difference...
Mind you I game at 2560*1600

Blowers dump heat out of the case so even if they are a bit worse at cooling [the card]... less early adopters have temp problems within their PC. Which means less returns for AMD and less bad publicity.

This is esp the case for the richer, less tech savy folk who buy 2 (or more) of them.
