SAPPHIRE RX 480 NITRO NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER AT OVERCLOCKERS UK (WORLD FIRST) !!!

Is this likely to be in stock anywhere in the next 2-3 weeks? I would go for a 1060 but I'm pretty sold on the 480 for DX12/Vulkan. No chance I'm going higher than 250 quid, just can't justify it, but not going for an older/lower spec card.

Well, that's a good question. The only info we've had from Gibbo is that a shipment is due to leave Hong Kong on August 12. Now, if this is going to be by ship, you can easily count 30 days in transit. If it's by plane, it will be at most 1 day. After that, there could be 7 more days of processing time in the customs.

So, based on these estimates, I would say that in the best case, they ship on the 12, arrive on the 13, only 1 working day in the customs, they are out on the 16, 1 day for inventory, they should start shipping to us on the 17 night/18 morning.

In the worst case, from August 12, arrive here by ship on September 12, 1 week in customs it's September 19, they get to OC on Sep 20, they start shipping them on Sep 21.

So, a safe bet would be that we won't start receiving them before the morning of the 19 in the best case.

Then, there is the question of the amounts that have been ordered. My understanding is that this shipment is the one that was supposed to leave Hong Kong on the 5, and will consist of only 50 cards. Then, there should be a further shipment, which was originally scheduled for the 12, that is apparently going to be "big", but what "big" means, and when it will actually leave HK, is up for discussion.

Of course, this is what I understand of what has been said so far. This means I may very well be completely wrong, and the only ones who can clarify these things are the OCUK staff.

If they were truthful about the dates a lot more people would have cancelled. They're smart, telling us they're "almost here" so we keep waiting and feel stupid for cancelling after waiting so long.

If 12th is another lie then I'm cancelling out of principle, because that's what 22nd and 5th were, straight up lies. 2000 expected by mid to end July, big shipment expeted by 5th? You don't just make those kind of errors. The difference between 200 and 2000 is enormous for a company like that.

Someone out there knew this would happen and kept it to themselves.

They need to get on top of it - AMD is not Nvidia,so many people won't just wait around, especially when their competitor has similar cards in stock you can buy NOW. This is what they need to realise - how many gamers even if they wanted an RX480,would just get a GTX1060 if they had to wait an unknown amount of time for a RX480??

After week of using RX480 im very disappointed...

Card is very hot and getting very very loud. Coil whine is loud in windows. Drivers keeps crashing. Radeon Settings keeps closing and showing errors. Not that big in game performance boost. Card just cant match build quality of my old R9 280x Vapour-X Tri-X ...

Regret that didn't go with 1060. Definitely its last sapphire card i bought, and possible last AMD. And 470 performence/price makes me stupid that i bought this one.

I've been out of the loop with PC gaming, but this seems like a bit of a strange product launch. The reference cards are poor in terms of design, but apart from this Sapphire card the custom ones all seem overpriced. I'm baffled by the MSI and Asus cards being 300 notes. Are new GPU releases usually like this?

Anyway, what card would people suggest as an alternative to the Nitro? I'm keen to pick one up before more Brexit price rises. I'm leaning more towards the 1060 but put off by the 6GB of RAM and lack of async compute support. I want a card for the next 2-3 years.

Funny my mates Sapphire RX480 Nitro seems fine?? Are you sure your card is not faulty - its been solid for him. His previous card was an XFX HD7870XT which was terribad though, but sorted managed to work for three years.

Possibly depends on unit. My was in one of first sent. I'm not saying that Nitro 480 is crap. I just say that my experience is negative.

Wasn't the first batch of cards to OcUk pre-production test run ones? I recall Gibbo making it sound better than it was as it was "stock".

Edit: Found this post

Hi there

Right Sapphire have given me some great news this morning, their initial batches that they tested they have agreed to ship exclusively to OcUK in the world. The first batch is a real small number as of course they are not from a full scale production run but a small production batch test run.

So OcUK customers will be the first in the world to receive a Nitro+ OC card, the first batch is likely to be around only 30 units and could be with ourselves as early as next Monday!!!

Then they shall hopefully ship 1000-2000 units next weekend to ourselves to clear the remaining backorders, 4GB cards should also be in that batch too.

He got his on the 2nd of August. Might be some issue then??

His previous card was the XFX limited edition HD7870XT of uber fail though. That was no doubt a "special edition" made by XFX.

I got mine before last weekend. I'll reinstall windows 10 and keep using for few more weeks if will not improve then i'll try send it on warranty.

Shouldn't be coil whine in Windows. It's usually only when the card is getting taxed in 3D.

Maybe its not coil whine but squeaking can be heard when i start using big projects on Illustrator or Photoshop(didn't happen before).

Hey, SSzaki. Have you made any tweaks yet if not I think i have solutions for your porblems :D

In regards to your crashing 16.7.3 drivers are pretty unstable for some but 16.7.2 is reportedly fine. Additionally it has been reported that 16.7.3 limits memory OC from 2250 to 2050MHz. (Doesn't happen for me though...)

As for your hot and loud problems. In global wattman click the Fan speed toggle from Automatic to Manual but don't change anything. (480 Min 2300 Max)
Also, up the power limit to like 25% to maintain 1342MHz boost and up the taget temp to 80°C

With those tweaks the card should be a lot more stable and quiet! :D

A lot of folks say 1070... funny thing is that there are few options for the 1070 under £400. However... if you go for the much better priced 980ti, then you can get some of the best custom 980tis for that £400.

Speak with your wallet, if you don't like the nonsense that has occurred with this new generation of GPUs... don't buy one. Buy a previous gen GPU and feel smug that you saved a lot over it's original RRP. The 8GB Nitro seemed like one of the better price to performance cards this gen, a shame about the stock.

I hope that was a joke... I know you feel the same that this generation has been terrible in terms of pricing. Giving up your beliefs and buying a 1070 at 980 prices... well that's up to you. As I said above, speak with our wallets. Even though tons of people have already bought those cards and made them a success. A £500 1170 is on them.

One big question I must ask about the custom 480s, what are the coolers actually like? I.e. what are the temps and noise levels? Which custom cooler is the best for temps and which is the best for noise? I still have a couple of months to wait for a 4GB custom 480. Despite the terrible prices... (might as well buy an 8GB one at this rate).

Apparently the red devil is the best for noise and temps, but make sure you have room for a 12.2 inch card.

I actually had one of the first batch. Had to RMA it sadly. Nice card though was a massive step up from my 5870.

Honestly not surprised so many very early adopters are having issues with them. They're all from a small batch test run, and not full production run cards.

So you essentially paid for early test cards.
