SAPPHIRE RX 480 NITRO NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER AT OVERCLOCKERS UK (WORLD FIRST) !!!

Is it possible to gain 20%? that sound a lot

Asus says their RX480 is nearly 19% faster according to their bumpf:

http://videocardz.com/62392/asus-shows-off-radeon-rx-480-strix-and-rx-480-dual

The issue with the GTX1060 is that the reference RX480 tends to throttle under 1.2GHZ most of the time, and also has the power throttling issue too. Even Tarinder over on Hexus commented that their RX480 tended to never boost to the maximum 1266MHZ consistently.

So,an AIB RX480 with boost closer to 1.35GHZ to 1.4GHZ ,is probably in reality hitting close to 15% higher clockspeeds, and I suspect there will be less power throttling too.

I dont think 480 is faster in many... Hitman, Doom and Ashes

I'm not sure what reviews should be trusted i allways trusted DigitalFoundry and Kitguru
but for some reason kitguru test cards with different tiltes than with 480....
just have a look on game list...

I use 3 sites. HardwareCanucks, Hard|OCP and Anand for my mainstay of reviews. I find these 3, on average, give well rounded reviews.

I've been interested in GPUs for about 30 years and kitguru I have little stock in. I would suggest trying these sites instead

Hardware.fr made a very interesting chart with REF RX480 and clocks.
IMG0051164_1.png

It shows that the card reached 1190 Mhz MEAN value across many games. In some games it was 100 Mhz slower than it suppose to be (1266Mhz). Which means a 1350 Mhz clocked Custom will be almost 200 Mhz above the reviewed values. It is a huge difference. So Asus maybe right.

I hope those idiots from AMD will send or "leaks" few benchmarks of AIB 1350 mhz cards soon...

I just really cant get how stupid you must be to sit and look how competition crush you on PR...

@motiv

Just had a quick look at those sites and HardwareCanucks got superb videos. Wow.

Thanks

there is something completely wrong with this launch for AMD, i cannot believe we still don't have clock speeds or reviews for the RX480 custom cards! the GTX 1060 on the other hand launched today with confirmed specs & reviews for both FE & custom cards, I have already pre ordered the Nitro but I am starting to think I should cancel the order, from all the reviews nvidia is clearly ahead at almost the same price, only thing stopping me is my freesync monitor. sadly it looks to me like AMD is repeating the same mistakes of coming back with too little too late.

It has already been discussed that they've been a victim of their own success, having to fill back-orders on the reference model due to the number of cards they sold (way above what they expected).

In any case, partner cards are in the works and will be with us in one or two weeks. I don't mind waiting a little bit longer for my Nitro+.

If AMD have any common sense though (and I'd really love to see this) they should use this time for yet another driver release, with further GCN4 optimisations, before the AIB cards arrive. It'll work wonders if benchmarks for the partner cards are done on even better drivers.

I think you just overthink power consumption of those two cards even going about saving earth. They both are super environment friendly compared to cards with same performance from recent years. No offence.

@fastboy what model?

the palit one :)

the others had sold out by the time I got into the webstore and too late to order from here so had to get elsewhere sadly but I will do a mini review tomorrow when it arrives if I feel well enough

I don't know what AMD was thinking... i just see how preorders for custom 480 are melting...

I was just thinking the same. They got the jump on 1060 in the marketplace and blew it by not getting custom cards out there faster. There are people waiting on custom 480 orders who can now go and get a custom 1060 on day 1!! Talk about dropping the ball; AMD just dropped everything.

yep that's what I did..wanted a 480 aib...none available and I needed acard so bought a 1060,i have no real preference for the make nor wether its amd or NVidia..the card will do me fine for 1080p

Or AMD could have seeded a few cards this week for review??
I really hope they get a few out for review in the next week.

Hi all. Pre-ordered one of these early on - bit disappointed about delay but enjoying the thread and info as I'm a bit out of touch with hardware. Recently bought a freesync monitor so will wait patiently.
Quick question.... I bought my pc from overclockers quite some time back and am wondering if the 8pin power is a problem or whether I can get an adapter (sorry, I really am rusty on hardware knowledge). The PC has a Gigabyte
Z77-D3H Intel Z77 motherboard- the pc was one of these:

Any and all info appreciated!

Your PSU (Corsair GS 600) should have a 6+2 connector rather than a solid 8, meaning you can simply unclip the 2 from the 6, and plug the 6 in. Going to do some googling to try to confirm that now...

Edit: It appears to have 2x 6+2 connectors, so it should work with no issues at all. As said, just split the 2 pin from the 6 and plug the 6 pin connector in.

Your power supply should have 2 6pin +2 cables, just connect the 6+2 into the 8pin on the gpu.,shouldnt need an adapter.

Cheers for that reassurance chaps. Sounds simple enough even for me!
Currently got a Radeon 6900 so am looking forward to quite a boost in performance when the Saphire arrives :-)

This is what I read and it is very interesting if true; custom 480s could be much faster than the throttling reference.

If that is the case, the 480 is clearly the better buy as we all know drivers will boost review-window performance going forward.

Hum what? anyone with half a brain knows Nvidia drivers are really bad nowadays. can even make cards burn up. Nvidia failed to write sli drivers for over a year due to not following the Microsofts guide for their OS? giving the finger to those that bought 2 cards at launch

Makes little difference, as i said above the "drivers" thing is something that pretty much haunts amd and is something that many people still think is an issue even when its not.

Hello everybody,

I was waiting for the 480 nitro but how is that possible that is not ready yet and Nvidia is already out with 1060 custom?

Amd has waisted another occasion having 20days without concurrent but not giving enough card
