SAPPHIRE RX 480 NITRO NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER AT OVERCLOCKERS UK (WORLD FIRST) !!!

They feel it is a sweeter price point, right now Sapphire are only focused on themselves and production as OcUK has already pre-sold now nearly 1000 RX 480 Nitro cards and sales today on the Nitro's have exploded.

Not surprisinggiving how underwhelming the 1060 looks, I bet a fair few people were hoping to get a cheap sli 1060 setup and that's never going to happen, I bet a few people boughta pair of nitros for xfire

benchmarks are crushing for 480 compared to 1060... Im thinking a lot to cancel or change my preorder for one of cheap 1060s...

I don't know what AMD was thinking... i just see how preorders for custom 480 are melting...

Dont know if i should change this high end 480 to any 1060... even if this nitro will be superb quality and performance it just cant get those 5-10 fps extra in each game...

Technically AIB 1060s are only about 10% faster than a downclocking ref. 480 in dx11 games. AIB 480s will definitely eliminate that difference.
Also rx 480 is faster in most dx12/vulkan titles yet you think it is wiser to cancel rx 480 (I suppose AIB) to buy a 1060 which is more expensive. Am I correct?

Can you provide links to benchmarks, not the nvidia ones but "independant" benchmarks.

It can easily catch up and most likely will with a decent cooler. Performance should be really similar between the Aib partner versions of 480/1060.

Well i dont want to pase in lots of pictures but im going throug lot of different reviews of founders edition and in all 1060 is better than 480 and in many its way better.

Just dont get me wrong. Im not a fanboy of green or red, recently i got few radeons in a row but i had geforces too.

I did even ignore games like hitman or tomb rider as they cant prove anything...

Its just showing that stock 1060 is faster.... now the question is how fast is that nitro....

THats why im thinking that AMD just shoot themself.... how the PR team could even do this....

EDIT:

Sorry for last one thats the custom one

...and inmany games the 1060 is behind the 480. As others pointed out at TPU the AIB 1060 is just 10% faster than a throttling ref 480. Even with the set of games TPU has, mostly NV titles, and the only DX12 title is ROTTR which is NV again. So AIB VS AIB the 1060 and 480 will be neck and neck, in some titles one is faster in others the other, but in DX12 and Vulkan the 480 mops the floor with the 1060, has more vram, and cheaper.

Me too, BUT....

I ordered the 480 Nitro+ 10 days or so ago, I wanted to wait as I can't really afford it, but the falling £ has made me do it now (in 3 months, how much will it cost then?).

The 1060 seems to use a lot less electricity than the 480. I was planning to try undervaulting the 480 anyway to about 1100mV to decrease temp, lower my bills & its better for the environment, but the 1060 appears to use about 40% less electricity anyway?

Is that correct?

If I cancel my 480, I will have to wait 10 days to get the refund, before I can buy again anyway, as my credit is maxed out.

I rarely play games, but need the additional grunt to decrease encode time in H.264 & want to start encoding in H.265. I presently use an HD7850, (CPU is an FX8350 OC to 4.6Ghz), & am waiting for Zen before upgrading that) so whichever GPU I pick I am expecting a massive boost.

Do people have any thoughts re: AMD or NVidia & my specific needs. Good (informed) advice is likely to influence my decision (greatly).

The power you save with the 1060 against the 480 will be nullified if you accidentally leave the light on in the restroom for a few hours. :)

I think you just overthink power consumption of those two cards even going about saving earth. They both are super environment friendly compared to cards with same performance from recent years. No offence.

@fastboy what model?

I dont think 480 is faster in many... Hitman, Doom and Ashes

I'm not sure what reviews should be trusted i allways trusted DigitalFoundry and Kitguru
but for some reason kitguru test cards with different tiltes than with 480....
just have a look on game list...

The 1060 wins one of those, gets tanked in Hitman and the 1060 has a dramatically better cooler and boosts past the average boost speed in general. Custom RX480s are likely to gain realistically 10% at least, maybe closer to 20%.

It's likely that custom RX480s will be on par with the 1060 custom card/FEs in DX11 and smashing them in DX12. From here on in the majority of games are DX12, look up games coming the rest of this year, all the ones you want performance for, AAA titles, there are many more DX12 than DX11 games. AMD has a huge lead in DX12 except in any games Nvidia manages to neuter, which as yet has been pretty much just the new Tomb Raider.

Even newer DX11 games(new-new not old engine-rehash-new, ie Primal uses the same engine as Far Cry 3 did) are much stronger on AMD than they used to be. AMD hardware is on both current gen main consoles and they've won the contracts for all the upgraded/new versions of Sony/MS consoles. So Polaris/Vega will be heavily optimised for in most games which is a huge part of the reason AMD has been so strong in DX12 and some of the newest DX11 games/engines.

I just don't get these reviews, in witcher the 1060 is faster than a fury and in gta v the 1060 is only 4 fps behind a 1070

I don't mean to be rude, but clearly global warming is not your bag, and I was quite clear in my concern for the environment too. Thanks for paying though.

In this case stay with RX480 otherwise you will need to drop your 1060 into garbage much earlier because of lesser VRAM and poorer dx12 performance. :D
Just kidding.
