SAPPHIRE RX 480 NITRO NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER AT OVERCLOCKERS UK (WORLD FIRST) !!!

When will you all take the hint...?

I have indeed taken the potential hint, however the 480 isn't all that far behind the 1060 on ref, which throttles in most cases(to somewhere around 1000-1200 sustained). Eliminate that throttling to sub-1200 core and then dump an extra 5% clocks on top and we are looking at a card which at least potentially rivals the 1060 for DX11 and older games and thumps it in a lot of DX12/Vulkan stuff. And maybe will clock too. The RX480 seems to gain a surprising amount from clocking the memory and core suggesting there are bottlenecks somewhere which clocking alleviates. Then put potential memory overclock actually making a reasonable impact for once and these could still be pretty rapid cards.

Throw that all together and you've certainly got interesting potential.

I think the DEVIL and Nitro cards will perform pretty well for the £250.

Don't skimp on PSU. It's one of the components, along with case and monitor, that can remain while you upgrade others over the years. Make sure it's one of the reputed brands. I really like Seasonic but there are other brands, such as Golden Flower, which have built up a good reputation over the years.

I currently have a Corsair CX 430W PSU.

I'm making a reasonable upgrade moving from:

G3258
2 x 4GB
1TB Hydrid drive
GTX 960 2GB
(No optical drive)

To:

I5 6600k
Sapphire Nitro + OC
2 x 8GB DDR4

I'm right in thinking this PSU will not cut it? Especially if I wish to OC?

I'm looking at either the Golden Flower Green 550W or Seasonic S12-II 620W

If I do need a PSU, which of the above would be best? I've determined the Golden Flower is the better PSU; however I may wish to upgrade to a Vega card when they are released and would prefer not to buy another PSU at the time.

I would check some OC sites, what the Nitro does and check values with amps and such to find the middle ground in draws.
optimally one would want a strong enough psu used at half power or such to have a safety margin of error. Pushing a psu long term is never really a good idea.
a 550w quality psu seems to fit the bill
