Why oh why are they so cheap and nasty? you never ever had problems with the good old IDE connections! Every time i'm inside my case i must move a Sata cable just a wee bit, enough to make the drive either not show up at all or just run funny, pausing and stuff... I dont know whether to invest in WD Secure connect cables or not. I'm using the yellow ones with the metal clip that come with the Gigabyte boards and tbh they are rubbish, the metal clip does sweet FA on my 4 wd aaks drives.
I was box hunting through old motherboard boxes and found 1 sata cable in a DFI Ultra D box and tired it out on my second rig. its got a much better secure feeling than the Gigabyte and Asus ones that i've been using upto date, shame i only have 1.

The Secure Connect cables are only any use if your drive has a molex power connector since they cover the SATA one. Most modern SATA drives don't have a molex anymore.

I use my sata cables that came with both my ASUS motherboards and have never had a problem with them :S

I also use the crap yellow cables that came with my Gigabyte mobo, locking they ain't, I just remember to check the connections after I've been fiddling :)

Bought some red ones off someone that are great, had to lever them out of sockets they were that strong!

Yes the Asus ones are tight fit (the RED ones), and some of them have the smallest right angle you will ever get so good for peeps where GPU is blocking SATA Ports.

Show me reliable evidence that they are even developing one! ;)

IF you need proof then Google this...................

It's the new version of the Secureconnect sata connector that is on sale in the USA right now and direct from WD.
All the newer WD sata drives have no old style power connector so the older Secureconnect(ors)cannot be used.
Seen the info on WD site.
Also I have found one place selling them in the uk for £8 each.

Might be a dumb question but.. can you use 2 right angled cables next to each other? My motherboard has a layout of sata connectors like this:

_ _ _
_ _ _

Can I use 2 right angled cables, one on the black connector and one on the red one above it? I have only one so I can not try it and will be needing to use all of the ports when I get some new hard drives - my graphics card blocks normal connectors on the connectors on the right.

If they have stock I'd be surprised. One of WD's trade suppliers has the new cables listed but their stock is a few days overdue already. When they arrive we'll be a lot cheaper though.:)

Slackworth actually mentioned it long ago, he knows more than most.

It's still due but unfortunately they've put the date back once again to Q3 2008 but the spec is still due to be the same (300GB 2.5" SATA-II 10K RPM).

So hopefully thats a 150GB (approx) platter using Perpendicular Recording so it will hold more Data and be far Faster and I would hope for 32MB Cache.

SATA300 Slackworth, you know fine there aint any SATA2 HDD's ;)

Hmm where did the 2.5" come from ?.

The sites do not have stock of above cable, some are selling from £7-£14 though when avail.
