Satellite Reign - Spiritual Successor to the original Syndicate - Kickstarter

I recently completed it & while there is room for improvement, it's got a good solid core gameplay behind it & is good fun. It's not the most straightforward or even the easiest game out there & some of the design choices are a little strange but I enjoyed the game overall once I got the hang of it.

It's most certainly screaming for a higher budget sequel which hopefully they will make.

I've completely given up on this after getting frustrated.

The main thing is the lack of AI for the squad.
If enemy is in cover, the squad continuosly fire at the wall.
You have to manually target everything
They stand getting shot and do not react
Enemy vision isn't clear enough

Then there is the poor performance of the game.

Using higher ground gives you no bonus, not even to the sniper.
It doesn't seem like the game even differentiates between levels as you can walk off of high buildings & walk over cars like they are not even there.

Some of the reviews on steam are pretty interesting, seems like a lot of people install the game and play it for 5 minutes before deciding it's amazing, have seen a few where they rewrote their review from positive to negative after playing for a longer period.

Some good things about the game:
Overuse of neon lights & signs makes it feel 80s cyberpunk. (seems very much like bladerunner)
Some of the character clothing/costumes are pretty quirky.
Music is pretty good.
Scanning ability is good, also mechanics like signal jammers add to the game.

If they somehow fixed the AI and maybe added the option of stance (aggressive/passive etc) the game would be much more fun.
It seems the only things that make the game challenging are the AI (the poor AI of your squad) & getting swarmed by enemies (which seem to spawn infinitely).

Maybe I should just stick to shadowrun
I just think this game could be so much fun if they put more effort into the AI ,how the game plays & optimization. Seems like they spent a lot of time in designing the looks & the sound.

A fair critique, but I had fun completing it even with those issues.

I think the core mechanics of the game are quite inventive, I like having one large map (without mission screens) - the upgrading & research system, the cloning & stealth aspects (albeit a little clumsily done) add a nice layer to the game.

A remake with a good budget & if those issues were ironed out would make the game much better, but I don't regret the purchase - just left me hoping for a better & improved second in the series.

But to be fair, I think I'd just like the X-com devs to acquire the rights & make a syndicate wars in that style.

I don't know if it's the latest patch (came out 2 days ago I think) but my squad seems to be firing back at enemies now even if I'm not controlling them assuming they have weapons out etc. Also they don't shoot at the wall if the enemy is behind cover, they occasionally hit the enemy and slowly wear them down, but to kill them you have to flank, which seems realistic and reasonable enough to me.

Yeah enemies swarm indefinitely but that's why I think try to play it as a stealth game is much more fun!

I'm glad I read this thread now. Steam flagged it up as I have been playing Shadowrun Returns and as soon as I saw it was cyberpunk I thought "ooh, must have" but now I'm not so sure. :p
