Saturday night TV

Barely watch TV anymore but yeah Saturday night shows isn't what it used to be all those years ago, Catchphrase, Bullseye, Wheel of Fortune, Gladiators, Big Break, The Generation Game, Blind Date, Noel Edmonds House Party. Fort Boyard, The Crystal Maze. You Bet. Don't Try This At Home.

I remember I used to stay at my Nan and granddads on a Saturday night as a boy watching them with him. Damn I miss him.

We were blessed back then, look at the crap now. Most things were better back then to be honest.

Computer forum loses its **** and shows a touch of the tism over an activity that involves physical exercise, working with other people, and being good at something that others care about.

More at eleven.

There is that big brush again.

I feel sorry for the Americans, been watching prison break on prime recently and they seem to get an ad break every 7.5 minutes!

The thing is, how can the industry not realise that this is a case of Golden Eggs>Goose>Killed?

Who sits through the ads any more?

It like ads on the internet. Does anybody use a browser with "No" adblock these days? (I tried it once, just as an experiment-It was awful!)

On TV people will just record/watch and FF through the ads.

On internet people use adblocks.

In both cases if the level of advertising was reasonable, people would put up with them, make them too much of a pain and people will just find ways of stopping them from being a pain...

Ugh. So basically pubs are going to be no-go zones for the entire weekend now? Unless you like the stella-swigging, carpet-carrying crowd :o

It's hard enough finding a pub for a nice afternoon beer at the weekend, that doesn't have a stupid big screen telly showing a bunch of overpaid morons kicking a ball around. What joy.

i keep playing with idea of opening a pub that specifically doesn't show sports. Wonder if there's a market for that? :D

You won't make any money. People will nurse a single drink for an hour while chatting to their friends who have bought a single pint and a packet of crisps. Each.

Whereas down the road the pub showing the football is rammed while selling six pints each to everyone as well as crisps to everyone and maybe even some food if you're lucky. There's a reason why most pubs show the football.

You don't see any of the lads in my local boozer eating crisps they are usually on the marching powder talking absolute rubbish

I think Wetherspoons have beaten you to the punch. :p

I’d say at least 50% of the pubs near me don’t show any sports. There’s obviously a market for it in some areas.

Wow, 48 posts and only two 'I don't watch broadcast TV' posts but we haven't had any 'I don't even own own a TV because I'm that great ' posts.

as much as i love to complain about ads, youtubes 30s or 5s skippable ads pale in comparison to most channels (non bbc) policy of 15mins of adverts per hour of programming

uBlock, you n00b :p I already pay £35/month for internet access and that is only on the medium tariff.

Been rubbish ever since A Team, Knightrider and Gladiators stopped on a Saturday

Agreed.

Don’t forget:

The Generation Game
Beadles about (You've Been Framed was better)
You Bet
Big Break
Brian Conley show
Stars in their eyes (but that was still better than Popstars, Pop Idol, Fame Academy, X Factor etc)
Blind Date
Noel’s house party
Baywatch

Some epic stuff. Bet the pubs are happy that Saturday tv is so crap now.

I agree with some on your list. I'll strike out the ones that I don't agree with.

People still watch broadcast TV?

And this.

YouTube is more relevant these days. This is because it is filmed by the many (Joey public), not the few (celebs):

- blogs
- raw event footage e.g. London Hyde Park Winter Wonderland
- how-to videos
- DIY tutorials
- product reviews
- household / life hacks
- science experiments gone wrong
- funny cats :-)
