Saving Sessions / Demand reduction thread

No chance I'm doing this. If it's sunny they'll schedule a slot, steal all of my export and battery and normal household usage would then be full rate.

People not on IOG/IFlux are getting all usage free in the hour (the emails sent out are different). Can't help but wonder if this is a trial on separating EV/ standard usage. The moment Octopus start doing this on their tariffs is the moment I leave Octopus.

Stinks I think…I agree, starting to look at separating usage.
I ll give it a miss as I ll be exporting loads at that time anyway, my peak time.

People on IOG were happy to game the saving session baselines though. You'd be very naive if you think they don't know exactly how people act during these sessions.

The original emails about this basically said, if you have solar don’t worry about it, particularly IOG customers with solar, so I’m not.

Not true, those people get the additional usage free not all the usage

I find the "steal all my export" a strange reaction and pretty hyperbolic. If you need charge then the greenest units you can use are self generated solar. Its hardly stealing to divert your own generation to your own car.
Whilst the overnight units are cheap and fairly green often they can never compete with your own, especially when the grid is overloaded with renewable generation.

I shall not be bothering. I never gamed the baseline, but I know many did.

If I'm exporting then my neighbours are using it, that's being green and getting paid for it, I never need to charge my car in the daytime or evening, overnight is fine, so I plug my car in when I go to bed, once a week usually.

I plugged in at 13:58 as it clouded over so solar dropped off signifcantly. A quick back of the pack calculation suggests I made about 5p :cry::cry:.

There is some consulation that a windfarm got paid less to turn off for slightly less time than what they otherwise would have :D

Just seen it on the Octopus forums, I'm still exporting a fair whack from solar during that hour. I've opted in, but doubt I'll earn much.

There must be a lot of solar this time of year, so it seems a bit odd.

My baseline it seems is only -0.93kW as we often cook in that hour so if it is sunny we might be able to send out at 7kW maybe.

It will mean turning off the air con though.

My baseline is -1.52 for the hour so just about worthwhile taking part
Today will be sunny so wont drain batts that much and will still end up exporting later

Quite still today so makes sense that as solar is starting to drop off fairly rapidly within the peak usage time that its worth getting some export from us peeps that would do it later anyway

My baseline was -2.67, I actually exported 6.21 kWh, so 3.54 x 13p = 46p extra.

I should have exported more, but one setting wasn't set correctly, but even taking that into account something doesn't seem quite right. Unfortunately I was late home today, and then didn't think to look until it was too late, never mind, we're not talking much like the old days.

I opted in, but considering I'm on Agile and we don't use that much electricity during that time anyway, I'm not expecting much.
