Well, I want one. :)

I'm not a chav, but i've always liked them. They don't seem much dearer than a Fiesta 1.25 Zetec to buy and insure.

I rang quinn direct today and they gave me quote of £1450 TPFT PP which is £100 dearer than the Fiesta.

I am going tomorrow to see a 99V Blue VTR totally unmodified with FSH 55k miles (£1800)..........anything I should look out for? If it has lexus lights i'm walking away lol. I want something fun to drive...........right car?

Pretty sure the V plate (pre facelift) would be a 90. Someone more familiar with Saxos might correct me though ;).

The VTR would undoubtedly be the better drive of the two IMO but really you want to try both to make your mind up.

I think they look nice, interior is well.........Citreon lol.

This V Reg one I am looking at, will it be the 90 or 100bhp one?

How do the VTR's compare to the Fiesta Zetec S's?

If it has the new shape fron it is a 98bhp, if it has sqaure headlights then its 90bhp.

There isn't really that much difference between the two, you can buy a much much newer vtr with less miles for the same price.

Which one you got cymatty? VTR or VTS?

Is the suspension different on the VTR and VTS?

I have a posidoen blue 02 VTR, as far as i am aware there isnt any difference in the suspension setup, or if there is it is not a massive difference. :)

Lol, i didn't like the brakes they lacked feel and stopping power, these new ones are better, also i cannot be bothered to carry 50 cd's. :p :D

May be useful info for the op.

Your Saxo's not so bad you know, I have a soft spot for them somewhere. Used to like them loads before the bit stigma, didnt used to atract any atention, in a sort of 106 sort of way. Just like the shire smallness of them. My g/f's got a 1.1 (no her name isnt Vicky Polard, it was a hand down) it fells so tin can like is the VTR also like that?

What sort of MPG do you get out of it? When you not ragging it around McD's drive through ;)

It does a little although it weighs 100kg more than the 1.1, as they weigh 900kg they are never going to feel super solid and they do rattle a little but i see it as part of the package.

Fuel wise i average around 35-45mpg, although if i am with my maccy d crew i average 5mpg. ;) :p

Oh and thanls for the compliment. :)

I bought my 99 'T VTR for £1500 with 60k.
Ive had nothing but trouble.. clutch went after 2 weeks £300, few little things like lock failures cost £80. Now ive noticed a knocking sound when turning the wheel when the car has stopped or moving slowly! It seems like another big bill... Im tempted to just sell it.

Apart from the problems ive had, its not a bad car. It is NOT fast, Most modern cars will keep up easily. The interior is typical cheap french sh.t, and the turning circle is huge for a car its size. But it is also fun in a way.
Brilliant if its your first car, but not something I would ever buy again.

oh yeah, I only drive in town, and I get 30mpg if I rag it, and 35mpg if im careful. If I cruise on the motorway at 70mph(pretty much the maximum before it starts to feel unsafe), 40-45 is achievable.

Sounds like a CV joint which shouldnt be too expensive to fix.

Wrong. 98bhp models didn't come till late X reg. Can tell by 3 plug ecu, square airbox and cat in manifold. You are right though, no noticeable difference on the road despite what a lot of people say - I know I've had both.

Maybe, there are a lot of cheap vtrs but they are absolute sheds. Nearly everyone I looked at was an absolute nail. £1800 is a good price if it is in as good nick as my old vtr. I sold mine for over 2 grand and it had 70k miles on it but it was in very good condition with lots of new parts.

Nope, differences between vtr and vts are:

- engine obviously, 16v and 120bhp
- closer ratio gearbox
- standard alarm
- abs + passenger airbag (later ones had side airbags)
- split folding rear bench with rear headrests
- 99 onwards models had 15" 5 spoke wheels

30mpg round town, 40mpg motorway

What do you expect, it was well below book value. You buy a cheap car you accept it will have problems. You should also would have known clutch was on the way out if it only went after 2 weeks.

Knocking when moving slowly is 99% the droplinks, they link the anti roll bar to the strut and are a consumable item. £11 each for bilstein ones from GSF car parts and very easy to change. Easier to grind the old ones off because they get rusted and then 19mm spanner and an allen key to fit new ones.

Other possibility is worn top mount bushes, around £15 for a pair and again quite easy to change. If it is more of a grinding than a knocking then its probably anti-roll bar bushes which you can't do yourself as they need to be put in with a hydraulic press and some garages will say you need replacement wishbones but tell them to **** off!! CV joint would probably make the knocking noise when backing off the accelerator too so unless it does that its one of the other things.

... and changed my brakes for a fast road set up. :)

Bit OT but:
What brakes did you change to? i feel my current vtr brakes are possibly a little light / maybe not as stopping as i would like them to be and was looing for replacements, how much did they set you back and would you reccomend them etc.?

He got brembo discs and mintex pads upon my reccomendation, I had them on my saxo but I kept them for the new one and just replaced them with ones off ebay. To be honest though it didn't make THAT much of a difference when I changed back to standardish ones, just noticed a bit more brake fade. You will need new calipers and master cylinder if you want to improve the braking noticabley.
