Maxo, Paxo - Saxo! Nice for a boyracer

Thanks for that little gem of knowledge, idiot.

Whats the Furio like? Slow? It's 0-60 times are not super but it's basically a 75bhp version of the VTR/VTS.

Would be nice on the insurance too. :)

Gash seats with no support and horrible fabric with bright yellow piping
Has a less wide rear track with rear drum brakes
Engine is a 1400 with 75bhp but is an alloy block rather than iron so lighter
Standard they only came with steel wheels and trims

The "fabric" they used in the earlier ones could have been velour, which is a nicer feel than cloth, however the pattern is gash.

The phase 2 saxo's IMO are a better buy (apart from the obvious looking more up to date), they have the digital odometer (rather than the ugly thing in the MK1), white dials, and far better looking tail lights. There is also the matter of the phase 2 rear spoiler not being so large and thus not looking so "shopping trolley handle".

Fabric in VTRs changed several times.
96/97 ones had plain grey velour with little blue bits in it
98/99 ones had grey velour with green/dark grey flecks in it
99-01 mk2s had black cloth with grey bit in the middle and is the best out of all of them IMO
01-03 ones had black cloth but with bright coloured shapes all over it

Digi odo is a pain in the arse to set the clock and reset the trip meter and cant display total mileage and trip at the same time, at dusk its quite hard to see the numbers as the backlight blends with the white dials, and theres no 30 on the speedo so annoying when trying to keep to the limit. Much prefered the admittedly more dated looking ones in my mk1. Tail lights wow big deal, £10 from a scrappy and the boot spoiler is better on the mk1, I want one for mine. I also have a soft spot for the mk1s looks, I really wanted one when they originally came out and the mk2 was just a girly rehash. I preferred my mk1 really but the latest ones are now 7 years old and the miles are piling up on them :(

I'm having problems with the Insurance.

I'm putting my DOB in as 15/05/1988 as I want to see the difference in quotes between 17/18.

I can't get anything lower than £1600 TPFT with PP, I live in a 1B category area so it's not that it's a ruff area or anything.

Is it worth me ringing these companies or is the website giving accurate quotes.

Tesco-Don't Want To Know
Direct Line-Don't Want To Know
Bell- £2000+
Admiral £2000+
Norwich Union £2000+
Quinn-Direct £1600

Quinn will be the only decent quote you will get, previously i was insured on a laguna, not in my name, tried changing our policy over to my saxo again not in my name with direct line and they refused out-right till i was at least 21 so think you will get much the same, being 18 knocked about £500ish off when i was playing with numbers, possibly less thinking of it,
worse comes to worse be a named driver on another policy and my quinn quote went form £1700 to £1000ish with 1 years named driving exp. vs. the £750ish it would be with 1 years ncb

They are great chuckable small cars, great little A road toy (just like the 106). Just be careful though, as with inexperience its very easy for things to go wrong very quickly.

You are right though, no noticeable difference on the road despite what a lot of people say - I know I've had both.

I've had both two and there is a difference. Not huge but I definetly noticed it, the 98bhp engine was far more refined and through the rev range pulled much better than the 90bhp unit.

Bar the engine the trim on the later 98bhp cars was much improved, felt a lot more solid.

You are complaining about having to pay £1600 to insurance your first year on a Saxo VTR

(or have I missed something?)

With no ncb and being 18, I looked at quotes for a VTR a few years back and it was £1600.

I've already passed and have been driving my mums new mini 1 for the last 6 months.

It makes a difference (£400) if I say I have name drivers experience.

How the hell do I proove this?

Can't your mum ring her insurance company, getting them to send a letter saying that you have been on her policy for x number of months?

Well yeh, but i'm sure I have to clearly state i've driven the car for 1 year. If that includes provisional, then i'd be fine because I was put on the insurance in September.
