SB-E [C2] Stepping

I spoke to Intel yesterday directly with regard to swopping my C1 which TBH is a decent chip but I want to try a C2. The guy in support had not heard of such a thing but he said the higher level support where looking into it!!! Total contradiction!! He had then hadnt he!!! Anyway he said he would mail me back on progress within 24 hours no e-mail. Furthermore I only called them because they had ignored my three previous mails to support with regard to defective features.

Intel want your money!!! But support is disgusting!!

Running 1.475 v Bios, Actual 1.44 under load. Temps well under 60 running linx closser to 50 infact on 16c (Ambient in my house to avoid condensation) water with chiller.

Is that a C2?

Yeah, that's as far as I am goin to try an go for now, I won't notice a benefit by cranking it up any further! it was just an easy multiplier OC didn't try CPU strap or anything complicated.

The temps listed are under 100% load during IBT with H100 in jet engine mode, sorry, I mean performance mode lol!

Gaming with it on silent mode so far hasn't pushed it much above 50!!!!

Anyone actually has a replacemnent from Intel at all?? I have asked about this but they have simply ignored e-mails or not evan confirmed the situation by mail after two telephone calls. Inel customer support is terrible!!!

Intel are in a hole, the item is not as advertised - by them - it is defective and in jurisdictions such as the UK - you can therefore say the item has been mis sold. They will replace these for people who want a replacement, I just think they are looking at how to "word" it - as unlike the SATA issue a large number of users will never see - or know about a problem. My take on this is - which is guided by the conversations I have had - is that anyone who WANTS a swap will get one - there are not that many in circulation for intel to deal with...

I will probably go for one - purely as its another chip to have a play with more than the functionality. However - as I pointed out to them - and they agreed - C1 resale value is harmed as it is essentially a defective stepping. So its poss worth swapping just to maximize your substantial CPU investment.

Further update to anyone interested...

I managed to reduce volts to 1.375v (in the bios) for the 4.7Ghz OC (1.37v worked the first time then failed (on IBT) the second) acheived by putting LLC on high, instead of medium.

also tried 4.8Ghz (multiplier) but i ended up having to put the volts back up to 1.40 and IBT was giving higher numbers for each 0.05v increase (up from 3....to 9.... )

heres a stats pic:

Also, how long does it take to run IBT on maximum (12 threads/30GB free RAM), i got bored after 20minutes without any results.

Nice result Dan, looking forward to trying mine, new case arrives today, and then Im braiding once my MDPC delivery has arrived..

Yea nice results mate! I can't wait to build mine :). Did you follow the ASUS guide? Apparently should be easy to hit 5GHz (are you running on air / contained water loop / custom loop?)

Also I will probably test 5GHz and beyond but will maintain a 4.5GHz which for me would be the sweet spot.

So far all I did was whack up the multi, then volts to match! Ain't done anything with CPU strap etc
I'm using H100 closed loop water.

About 31 mins a pass..

I have been struggling getting the 3960X to overclock using the multiplyer it just doesnt seem to like it at all. Sitting at 4.55Ghz (130x35 - 1.38v(Showing 1.360 in CPUZ) with LLC on high)
