Scariest Game you have ever played?

The original Resident Evil. Those friggin dogs jumping through the windows got me every time.

I totally agree, it's such a bad experience when you're a child.

Resident Evil on the Playstation. Got it on day of release and those dogs that jump through the windows in the 'L-Shaped Passage' made a little poo come out.

Haha

first Alien vs Predator and Clive Barkers undying were **** scary when first playing them when released. More modern ones for me would be Dead Space, Amnesia.

To be honest i've only played a few horror/scary games.

Dead Space games were very suspenseful and had their jumps, but Amnesia The Dark Decent was really damn scary for me and really takes the 'scary' to a whole new level! :p

i couldn't finish doom 3 cos I'm such a panzy! The tension just kept buliding up the more I played till it just got too much!

I was a bit like that with doom 3 the tension built and built and then you finally got sick of a imp spawning behind you every other step and the lights blowing in every other room turning it into a gimmick based horror.

My heart is usually racing before I've even got to the main menu on Amnesia. Only because I know what is going to happen as soon as I load my saved game. I usually start getting chased by something and then exit the game :o

For me it is Doom 3, that scared the crap out of me. Might have to play it again.

Will also look into Amnesia, sounds like a right game to play!

EDIT: just watched the trailer at here, looks awesome!

The original AVP, as a marine.

The first time I had to give up on a game because it was too scary was playing AvP as a marine.

Dead Space is kind of scary but to me it's more about the tension. When I play it I find I'm creeping forward slowly with my gun constantly held out, just waiting for the next attack. It's unnerving, but nothing compared to...

Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Just the scariest game I've ever played, by a country mile. Before I gave up on it, I was literally playing in ten minute chunks. I'd go ages without so much as seeing anything hostile, but it was still unbearable. I had a close call with one of those...things once and it was easily the scariest gaming moment of my life. I wish I could go back and finish it but I just can't.

+1 million.

Doom III with headphones scared the life out of me with its walk around a corner and a monster drops from nowhere right in front of you...

Dead Space II recently creeped me out a little.

Remember Bio Shock being quite creepy but not scary - just very creepy.

Metro 2033 had a few moments where I felt a bit creeped out, Half Life 2 had a whole area Ravenholm - that was scary at times..

I use to think silent hill 1 which is up their, but amnesia seems to be king now.

Silent Hill came out when I was still in school. My best friend and I had been big fans of Resi until then and thought that was as scary as gaming could get. I rushed out and picked up Silent Hill the day it was released and took it to his house to play. We were nervous wrecks by the end of the day!

While Resi relied on jumps between moments of calm to scare you, the atmosphere of Silent Hill was constantly eerie, accompanied by a very unsettling soundtrack (which I bought separately and still have). You didn't feel safe even when you knew you were. The Japanese horror influence was brilliantly realised in the game. Remember hearing the air-raid sirens and thinking "OH NO NOT AGAIN PLEASE GOD"? And who could forget exploring the school for the first time?

First game that scared me was: Resident Evil 2

That was then beaten by: Silent Hill 2

That was then beaten by: Dead Space (1)

So far the scariest for me is deffinately: Amnesia The Dark Descent !!!
