Schumacher to Mercedes GP?

now they have Merc money and support over the winter to get things sorted for 2010. I have little doubt that the 2010 Merc is going to be a very competitive car.

Brawn is in a much better position now that he was this time last year and look what he did.

last year they had a car that had been developed for pretty much the whole of the 2008 season with 5 wind tunnels etc.

mclaren had merc money last year and started development at the end of the season, look how that worked out.

the only schumacher i can see going to mercedes is ralf.

doubt michael would be intrested unless he knew it would be a competive car and i suspect it would be a huge gamble this year to join mercedes

Picking up from a point I made in the Raikkonen thread, I don't think it's about the gamble as to whether the car is competitive or not, it's about having the hunger and desire to compete in the top level of motorsport. We all know schumi has that, and probably will always have it until the day he dies. 7 world championships and the possible drive last year serve as decent reason for him wanting to. The practicalities are very much different though. Worming his way out of Ferrari after so many years won't be easy.

I really hope that cheating german doesnt darken F1 again - had enough of him when he was around, REALLY dont want him back

Thought one failed comeback would be enough:mad:

yea im sick of the ******* cheating all the time he was at roc recently and its obvious he only had some sucess because of the hidden nos and traction control on the vehicles reserved solely for him.

id have thought he'd have to jump through a lot of hoops to get out of his contract(s) especially anything pertaining to the f1 team still, and merc probably wouldnt want him still being contracted to fiat, even if it was in a road car commercial capacity

Just flashed up on Sky sports news that MS manager has confirmed that he is in talks with Mercedes, i wonder were this will go ?

it was reported a while ago that talks had already taken place (at the last race of hte season) - wonder if thats what Sky mean or more current talks

I've lost any semblance of belief in anything surrounding MS after last time. Especially his manager 'Definitely not, no, not interested, not a chance it will happen'. Next day, Ferrari announce he is testing a car with GP2 tyres etc.

I'm not going to place any belief in anything I read about this until he signs on the dotted line and starts testing. Maybe even wait until he's sat in a Merc doing qualifying laps at the first race of 2010.

Anyone else think this has been lost in translation here and that Merc might be after MS for a non driving role? Strategic or something? Imagin what a team with Ross and MS calling the shots could do with a promising driver under their wing!

I think its plausible. There have been rumours he only didn't make a return this year as he didn't want to race in a sub par car.

Imagine the media bandwagon that would create if he was not competitive. "schumacher has lost his touch" etc etc.

I think if he were to be making a come back now would be the time, rather that just being a go to man filling in somebody elses position.

i'll just leave this here :p

Brawn - Schumacher NOT to drive for Mercedes

Ross Brawn has shot down intensifying speculation that Michael Schumacher is set to return to Formula One in 2010.
...
When asked about the speculation by Germany's Bild, Brawn replied: "There's nothing to it except a dream of the media [and Schumacher fanboys on certain Internet forums]. Michael would have come back temporarily for Ferrari, but he doesn't want to start a new career."

no one has give a definite NO, everyone is just saying it probably wont happen.

schui's manager said he would never replace massa for ferarri, then later we see him testing in the older car.
