Screen protector, yes or no?

I have since discovering glass screen protectors. Plastic ones are awful.

They don't work well on curved screens, though. Unless all screens go curved, I'll be avoiding getting one - I dislike the aesthetic regardless of screen protector issues.

Every single person who doesn't have a screen protector and says that there are no micro scratches is just not attentive (in both senses of the word) enough in my experience. Good on them if they aren't as picky as me, but I can always immediately spot the supposedly non-existent scratches and since they would bug me I always use a tempered glass screen protector.

This is also why I will never buy a phone with one of the gimmicky curved screens.

Mine definitely has micro scratches. But they are not noticeable unless I look for them. The ugliness of a screen protector would bother me more, the cutouts etc.

I always used to use screen protectors. They looked a bit naff, but served their purpose.

Then I moved to using 'cheap' semi-disposable phones circa £150 or less. I just didn't bother with screen protectors and haven't noticed any scratches.

I still use a gel case though.

I just know as soon as I rip this crappy screen protector off I'll go and get a scratch. I grabbed my old Xiaomi Mi5 out of the draw last night and it still looked great with its glass screen protector on :(

A few years ago I decided to not use a screen protector for my Sony Z2. It didnt take long before it had jumped out of the phone holder down into the car footwell and came back up with three scratches from being face down on some grit, all in the blink of an eye!

I always used to, but since having an S8 and S9, I tried many screen protectors, all of which were rubbish, so naked now.

This might be the right thread to ask,

Are tempered glass screen protectors more scratch resistant than modern screens?, I ask this because I never seem to get any scratches ony tempered glass protectors but if I go naked I do start to notice micro scratches?

From my experience they are. Gorilla Glass is 'softer' than before in it's latest guise. GG nowadays is designed for manufacturer drop (shatter) tests instead of scratch tests. Tempered glass on the other hand varies in quality but from my experience (I've used tons) they've surprised a ton of abuse from machine shop tools and I've only managed to shatter two in the past yet never scratched any.

Umm nope, I don't have any on my 2 year old phone.

I've heard it so many times before, but when I look at those phones in the sun I see the radial scratch reflections everywhere. It's unavoidable really as some of the specs of dust are far harder than even the best gorilla glass currently available.

Umm yeah, I must be lying then... Doesn't matter what angle I look at it in or how it catches the light, there are no scratches.

To be honest, even if there were I wouldn't worry if it was that difficult to see them. I'd rather have a screen with micro scratches than one with a protector attached.

I have not used a screen protector on any of my mobile phones for years
(I never liked the way they feel when they have a screen protector on)

But I keep thinking of trying one of the Whitestone Tempered Glass ones for my note 9 but I get put off by all the 25% of one star & 11% of two star reviews on amazon for such a high priced screen protector

How good is it? It's not peeling of or anything like that? I need a screen protector for my Note 9

Just an update. Fitted a ultimate shield front on a pixel 2 XL yesterday, fit is perfect. Takes a day or 2 for all bubbles to go.

Defo recommend it.

Got a lot of experience with the domes and have to say they are superb in use, the glass feels just as good as the stock glass, if not better. Sadly I can't recommend them. They charge too much for what is essentially a 'one shot' operation, and you need one hell of a dust free environment to apply them.

I've had 2 on my S8+ this year. My last one mysteriously cracked on the edge overnight and after that I just couldn't be bothered even contacting Whitestone (who are good) for a warranty replacement as this current one, which is a replacement too took over a week. I've since, as my post earlier in this thread stated gone to TPU protectors despite the very obvious moire pattern effect is evident on bright backgrounds. They feel a tiny bit 'spongy' but provide some protection.

I use a tempered glass screen protector for all my phones. It was a pain looking for one for my Note8, but I found a good (not perfect) curved tempered glass that doesnt suffer from reduced screen responsiveness.

I'm surprised how many people still use screen protectors, my 2 year old phone looks spotless majority of the time unless under the brightest of light and stupid angles with the screen off and even then I really have to look hard for the few micro scratches it has

And if you had a screen protector you would not have them few micro scratches :) and when it comes time to sell you can say the screen is spotless and have better chance of selling
