How about a scuba diving thread?
Post pictures, videos, stories, your favourite spots, etc.!

Here's a few snaps to start (pretty poor quality I'm afraid, only had an old compact!):

Marsa Alam, Egypt:
We were really lucky and saw a couple of turtles grazing just off the beach :)

You don't realise how big they are until you see them in the flesh.

We also saw a Dugong. He was a bit miffed about being around us, and didn't stay still long enough to get a decent picture :( Really impressive, though, and these things can shift when they want to! We spent a good 20 mins playing cat and mouse with him.

I've got a few more but I'll leave them for now. Just thought I'd get the ball rolling :)

Speaking of anchors, yesterday I was down about 24mtrs at Black Carr, St Abb's when my buddy was pointing to under me, I looked down and saw a huge anchor, must've been 10ft long at least, I can't understand how I completely missed it lol

Ahh not been diving in ages :( some great pics above and really makes me want to go!
Dived: England (coasts) and lots of reservoirs (for work)
Spain / Canaries
Saudi Arabia
Egypt
Australia (East/West/North East)
Mexico

Saudi was by far the best diving :)

Some great pictures, I've got a folder of them at home but none as good as the ones here (nicked my dads camera for one of my holidays, a photographer I'm not :p)

Amazing pictures guys. How did everyone learn - did you do it on holiday or in the UK?

I did part of it over here and part of it in Madeira,

With the PADI Open Water qualification you need to a certain amount of work in a swimming pool before doing 4 open water dives to complete the qualification, so for this I did the swimming pool work over here and the 4 open water dives on holiday in Madeira,

Then I immediately did the advanced open water over there as well straight after the open water, that's all proper dives so no swimming pool stuff.

And then the only other qualification I've got so far is Nitrox which is classroom based so did that over here as well.

I am a 'fair weather diver' though (also a fair weather rider on my motorbike, so kinda makes sense :p) and currently Madeira is the coldest water I've dived in at ~17-19c, then Paphos at 21-22c but my preferred diving temp is Egypt in summer at the 28-30c range, toasty and warm there, none of this sub-10c freezing-ness of uk diving :p

I learnt in thailand, then started diving in the uk after. I dont really think theres much in it where you learn. Im instructing a load of people in the uk now and they still love learning to dive even if it is a bit cold.

Ive just landed a job in croatia at a dive centre though so Uk diving is getting put on hold for a while so i can enjoy lots of sun and warm water!

I earn in the UK, Did my open water dives in a muddy lake near Heathrow, there was about 50cm vis.

I'm off to Lindos Rhodes in a few months time and i'm wanting to go diving for the first time :)

MW

Lindos is lovely. Didn't dive there tho. No cars (Donkeys instead) Lots of quiet bars tucked into ally ways. Good for snorkelling there too I think theres a little bay called St Pauls, which is nice.

Totally forgot I started this thread! :o
Nice pics chaps :)
I have a few from Cape Verde last Easter, but they're all rather rubbish unfortunately. Going diving all over SE Asia in November so hopefully I'll have something to post then.

Abu Dabbab?

Yeah, Abu Dabbab. We stayed on Coraya Beach but turtles and dugongs are a bit of a rarity up there, so we took a trip out to see them.

Half and half. I did a PADI referral, so all my pool dives and classes were done in the UK, then I finished it off with my ocean dives when I got to Egypt. That way I didn't have to dive in our horrible cold British sea, or train in a dry suit for it. :D
