Scummy pipe stink hell!

gutted the smell is back :(

put some washing on, came back later and it smells again :(

Not as bad, but still VERY annoying! If it was my house I would add a u-bend after the washing machine.

iirc....on most washers they have a little box at the bottom you can pull out....where you can clean something (cant remember what) but ive known some to be filthy with black cilt which bloody stinks...do you use powder rather than liquid????

we just use the liquid, but don't know what the people used before us. Amonia from the smell of it!

if a u-bend only costs a fiver I may just do it, I'm sure my landlady would pay anyways if it wasn't too much, she seems pretty cool :)

Where about should I put it though? straight after the bit where the pipe comes out of the washer?

Cheers,

G

meh
ok, how does it work at the moment?
Washing machine outlet goes into a PVC waste pipe how?
On a spiggot, which is on the end of the pipe and the washing machines waste hose fits over that (usually with a worm clip) and doesnt allow odour back in by design.
Or into a stand pipe? (PVC waste pipe has a vertical sectionthat the washing machine waste hose is inserted into, with an L-bend at the bottom which is where the S-bend should be)?

Easy one, and exactly as I thought, where the washing machine hose goes into the top of the stand pipe (vertical bit) then down to an elbow joint, that elbow should be an S-bend (P-trap to a plumber).

Just noticed, the actual waste pipe shown in that picture (the grey stuff) is for solvent bonded joints, you should be able to find a push fit/compression adapter for a couple of quids, but the current, incorrect elbow joint might be glued into place if its all grey pipe as in the pic.

S-Bend eh? I would have known what you meant if it was U-Bend, please can you show me what you mean? Anything on google images or anywhere?

Also I think the pipes are glued cause I tried to undo the elbow joint and it wouldn't budge.

have you tried undoing that white ubend under the sink??? just a possibility but if you have a mrs there terrible for washing stuff down the sink, you might have a **** load of rotting veggies in there :D could even be your pea trap gulley outside thats bunged with crap causing the smell to uprside through the waste pipes and up through your sink ( pea trap gulleys stink rotten if they get bunged up) the smell :(

everytime you turn the washer on or run the sink if the smells there my guess is that your gulleys blocked and when running water hits that gulley its causing the smell to uproar through your sink

go outside and go to your pea trap gulley ( what youve put as drain) get a nice bin liner if your a wuss and get your hand in :) and run some water
