Sean Connery Appreciation

Although everything in his life he owes to being Britishhh film icon, he's nashhhionalishhhtic shhhheparatishhht who lives abroad to avoid paying taxshheshh.

True story for the lolz: He was offered to play Gandalf in Lord Of The Rings, they wanted him so bad, they offered him 15% share of worldwide box office takings. Sir Connery refused because, I quote, he did "not understand the script."

Personally, I think he's a rubbish actor, its always the same routine with very little change.

While I do enjoy Connery, I am so, so glad that he didn't accept the role Gandalf.

Nice :p

Don't rate him myself he's one of those actors that looks & sounds the same in every film. :D

I don't believe for even a split second he was offered a 15% share, there is simply no chance. An actor would only get that for a project he was partially funding himself. 1.5% share.... maybe, even then, very unlikely IMHO. He's a big name and well known, but in terms of this role, who he is, he wasn't the only possible choice as other actors would be for other parts in other films.

The guy is also a tax dodger. Lives in Spain, but would return to Scotland if it got independance. So basically we won't live in Scotland while the evil English are oppressing his people and may use his income tax to support the supressive state. But will come home to plucky Scotland when it's free. Comes over as bit ****ty me thinks.

So, you guys know that he beats his wife, and you still think he's great...? :o

Can you separate his work from him as a person? I like some of the music by the Sex Pistols but think Sid Vicious was an odious little sod - I don't see it as a problem to like the work but not the person or vice versa.

I tend to think of Shhirrr Sean in much the same way I think of Nicholas Cage - technically fairly limited but enjoyable to watch all the same. He was the best Bond but his views on many things I cannot support, I'm also not a fan of his position as a figurehead for Scottish Nationalism despite his status as a tax exile.

I needed somewhere to keep some books, so I called up Sean Connery and told him to bring his toolkit. He drilled a few holes in the wall, fitted some brackets and screwed on a bit of wood. I was just in the process of paying him, when the whole lot fell out of the wall and took a huge chunk out of the plasterwork. I looked at him angrily, and he simply said "Oh, I'm sho ashamed of myshelf".

I find this quite difficult. I love Christian Bale as an actor, but after the incident of the set of terminator, I find it really hard to watch him. When someone is as odious as that, it's difficult to push it to the back of your mind.

Bale is an intense actor. It's why he performs so well. I don't find it objectionable, really. If someone was hassling me when I was really in the zone at work I'd probably get hacked off after a while.
