I have had my season tickets suspended by the club as they say that away tickets at Man U issued to me were sold on

Now I have no idea where they get this from, yes a mate used my tickets but they were not sold on, just that I couldn't go and he went instead and paid face value

Apparantly the "evidence" they have is that 2 males were sat it the seats where my tickets are for me and the missus

Further checks seem to show that they have suspended 600 tickets on the basis of this game (about a quarter of tickets issued)

This is bad enough but when a ticket office is as badly run as at Liverpool and so many tickets seem to mysteriously find their way into the hands of touts it does leave you somewhat bewildered

If they had been sold at profit I could understand but AFAIK letting mates use yiur season tickets etc is pretty standard for most folks

Hmmm i know my girlfriends brother lets his mates have his tickets at city of he can't go. Don't think he's ever had any issues.

Have you contacted the booking/ticket office?

yes, had to send a letter along with the stubs from the game and " they will look into it "

If they were going to get so draconian over a standard practice then surely a warning in advance wouldn't have harmed

Yeah, that's mad. Obviously it's bad to have season ticket holders just always selling on tickets at a profit - touts are bad, yo - but your case is just reasonable. A warning would have be fair, if they're going to do this, as you say.

never made a penny from others using my tickets

I've been a season ticket holder for yonks and sit/sat with people who have been holding them for even longer.

It's always being an unwritten rule that if you can't go, someone else; family or friend, take your place. They don't 'pay' for the ticket, as it's basically the alternative of someone not going and the ticket going to waste (poorer atmosphere/poorer crowd both of which can at times reflect badly)

I don't doubt that people sell their tickets, a couple of seasons back Wednesday insisted on having your photo on the season ticket as a way of combatting this.

Still, it's a real shame when things like this happen, because it's a minority that cause the problem that ultimately lead to the majority being punished.

I'm not saying you have, I'm just saying that I'd wager there are people who always sell their tickets, when they can do so for a profit... but that this is a bad way of targeting them.

sorry, was just clarifying, didn't mean you thought I had

Funny, I'd just heard today that a guy that runs the main Arsenal fanzine got chucked in the nick after being spotted passing his ticket on before a game.

I know it's tough to completely define the line between tout and someone letting someone else use their ticket, but a lighter touch is always the better approach.

first of all, i am amazed they actually check, it must be extremely hard to cross reference this sort of thing on a weekly basis?

i mean your talking about hundreds of thousands of people are are you not if the top 6 teams within the league do this?

second of all, there should be a system where if you cannot go, you inform the club and tell them your sending someone else instead (a friend or family member), they would then check how many times you do this in a season and if it is deemed you are a tout (abusing the service by using it too often) then they should ban you.

looks like the whole system needs to be reviewed

Dont agree with it, but its completely normal in American sports.
They had a real problem with sharing seats or 'giving away' temporerily their season ticket because they couldn't afford it but didnt want to give it up (because of waiting list).

Im not even on the waiting list, couldn't attend enough to make a season ticket worthwhile but there's people i know who are always annoyed there's people 'sharing' tickets to split the cost at the expense of him being able to purchase it outright.

Obviously not your situation, but probably the reason behind the change.

-edit-
Clauses in question would be at a guess:

3.2 You may only sell or transfer the Season Ticket to a Guest with the express written consent of the Club given at the Club's absolute discretion.

Don't know if I read that right, but you did sell your tickets to your friends didn't you? So they have every right to suspend you if thems the rules. Ridiculous rule however, you should be able to use your ticket how you wish

I intended gping but about 2 days before something changed and I couldn't make it, he paid the cost of the ticket, nothing more

I could have sold on for a large profit if I wanted to but that is not something I would do

the letter refers to 3.1 but does not say what that is

I'm not criticising you, it's common sense to pass the ticket on if you can't go. But you can't complain at the ban, you can complain at the stupid rule though

Eh, my mate got me and him club level tickets to the arsenal v Milan champions league game from one of the partners at his work for free and nothing has come about from that.

Maybe you were just unlucky.
