Second Build - University

i have been playing BF3 and ive got some temps and stuff for those interested

these values are all MAX at LOAD

i am playing at 1080p with everything on ULTRA settings, but NO AA

i had AA on, but i was getting a pink flickering which was rather annoying, it was a playable FPS, but annoying so i turned it off

i am running the 10.10 drivers, i dont like testing beta drivers - rather stick to the stable releases

CPU @ stock:
30 degrees idle, 62 degrees load, 24 degrees ambient

5850 @ stock:
42 degrees idle, 70 degrees load, 24 degrees ambient

on other news:

- I have been in talks with Crucial who are willing to send me a review sample when they receive back the current ones out on review :D

- I have been in talks with Gainward who are willing to discuss a 2012 sponsorship deal :D

- i have been in talks with Zotac who i am in discussions with about Sponsorship :D

over the next week i will be doing:

- remove the H50 and replace with the D-14

- remove the rear exhaust and replace with 140mm roof exhaust

- replace the stock window with the custom one i made

i have got to say this is a great looking build, in fact you are using a lot of similar parts to my current build (h50, psu, ram, hdds), i think the main difference is that case (i got a storm enforcer)

but anyways this is a great looking case, i am loving the white bladed gts and the white black contrasts, looks great :)

did you get the temp information you wanted for the push/pull comparing stock to gt's? :)

BIG UPDATE:

right then, today i thought i would do a number of things:

1) remove the faulty H50 and replace it with my spare D-14 (which would also lower temps)

2) replace the rear exhaust 120mm with a white LED 140mm roof exhaust (which would allow me to use my custom side panel)

so i got to work, this is her when i first started

remove the TV card (which doesnt pick up BBC channels) and the gfx card

leaving a nice void

unplugging everything

a lot of dust considering it was only built for 2/3 weeks!

removing everything

starting to remove the faulty H50

out of the case

Mrs Mobo after the cooler was removed

taking off the H50 backplate was a PITA! i resorted to gouging it off with scissors VERY carefully :)

all cleaned up

starting to assemble the D-14, first with the backplate

almost finished with the mounting

ready to put her back into the case

can you see what ive done wrong?

see it now? :p

yep - i mounted the cooler the wrong way around!

back off -> cleaned with IPA -> fresh bit of MX4 -> reseated the correct way round :p

can you see the MAJOR issue now?

guess what?! the graphics card doesnt fit under the D-14!

i had two options:

1) buy a cheaper, worse performing cooler, refit the 5850 and then replace with the GTX 580 when it comes

2) keep with the D-14, but a proper ATX mobo, which will fit the D-14 and the GTX 580 and it even does SLI and Gen 3 PCIe

i went with option 2, more expensive, but better in my view

also: ive just broken 2000 views :D

that is 2057 views in 71 days ~ 30 views/day :D

looks nice m8 :D did you not try the gentle typhoons on the nh-d14 first?

i thought about that but there are two issues:

1) they use a plastic clip to hold the wire restraint, i didnt want to break them trying to take them out

2) i have two 120mm typhoons, the 140mm centre d-14 fan wire clip wouldnt have it

i *might* respray the d-14 fans if i decide the d-14 is permanent :)

Another LARGE update:

my motherboard was meant to come yesterday when i booked a whole day free and whatcha know - City-Link did there usually performance of delivering it today when i had a very full day!

yeah, i know, DHD is a lot better :rolleyes:

right then, lets get to the nitty-gritty of it becuase i know all you like to look at is the pictures and scroll over me blabbing on about nonsense :p

when i unwrapped her

nice :D don't think I'll go with another msi board though, this one is aweful for overclocking :(

thats a shame, must be a dud, all the ones ive had have been fantastic. With sandy bridge i think that gigabyte and asus really dropped the ball, i would only go with MSI or ASrock and seeing as MSI have a wider range and are a little cheaper, ive gone with them :)

I have a p55a-g55, and it's either my cpu or my motherboard, but the bios on this board is rather limited, so I'm blaming it on my motherboard :p but another reason is that msi boards also don't fit in with my theme, only trouble is that there is only one board that does fit in with my black, white and orange theme, and that's the x58a-oc :(

that is annoying... are gigabyte planning on releasing a black/orange board for SB?

yeah, but I'm struggling to save up enough for a 2500k :p I think I'd go for either the gigabyte z68a-ud4 or the asrock extreme4 gen3 although cleeecooo already has this, as they are the only motherboards that will fit in with my theme at an alright price with nice features :)

make sure you do all your maths homework then and get a good job :D :p :D

those are nice boards, i was thinking about those too - all black :cool::cool:

what cpu are you running at the moment then?
