Second Hand 360 or Second Hand PS3 Slim 120gb

The Xbox isn't worth that much looking at the recent prices of them new. The PS3 is OK for that price but if it doesn't come with any games, do you know which games you would buy for it. If you have 2 or 3 in mind that you would get straight away then it's going to take the price to the £200 mark. If you look at new PS3s with games included, you might find just what you're after for not that much more.

Is there any reason to spend all that money on an elite?

I got a normal xbox off ebay that got delivered today for £82

Xbox 360 60gig
2x wireless controllers
play and charge cable
DVD remote
headset
chat pad (keyboard thing that plug into controller)
Wireless adapter
Lips game (+ 2x wireless mics)
CoD WAW + MW2
Fifa 2010
+ all the cables

So if i was you i would get the PS3 (not sure on there prices) and then get a cheap xbox so you can have both :)

i think back then when the elite got released it had better cooling inside so you wouldn't get the ring of death but i'm pretty sure all newer console got that now anyway (but im not 100% sure if thats true, just saying what i've heard). So the only real difference is the HDD.

xbox live gold costs about £40 per year
without gold there is no online gaming

ps3 online is free

second hand xbox is worth no more than the controllers it comes with as it can rrod at any time (even my falcon got rrod after 14 months) and only registered owner gets free replacement

plus a 2nd hand xbox HD could be worn out - I would pay no more than £60 for a perfect second hand elite

That would be my argument for a PS3. I'd be too scared of RROD to buy a second hand 360.

no need to be scared of the rrod anymore i only know 1 case out of all my mates where it happened and that was one of the original 360 when they came out.

however i had an rrod twice and it the cause was only because the plug on the transformer wasn't plugged in properly

Just to play devils advocate… The PS3 isn’t totally immune to failure. The PS3 slim however is regarded to be better then some of the older phat models. The 40GB model and the 60 and 80GB models are known for YLOD and blu ray laser failure.

With that said, the xbox360 failure rates are shocking. I’d trust a second hand PS3 slim over a second hand xbox360. And the second hand market for xbox360 elite has totally bottomed out. These can be had for less then £100 if you shop around.

My money on value for money and return on what you want with it is still with the PS3. Its media capabilities are fantastic, and for casual gaming it’ll serve you just fine.

But I would look at some of the bundles currently out seeing as the second hand PS3 has very little extra with it. You might get a new model with games you can trade up if not wanted, need to just look at all options before committing to buying second hand consoles…

Second hand elites are avaliable for 99.99 with 12 month warrenty, you'd be mad to buy one for 150!

Shows how up to speed i am with consoles (NOT!!)

Pointed this out to him and he'd drop the price to £80.

Seen a link for the xbox 360 direct from MS inc Quidco and voucher code (if still valid) bringing the price for the new slim down to £165 ish.

My head hurts!

Take it at 80 quid a rekon, still has 3 years RROD Warrenty anyway, and the slim deal you mention is only the 4GB. But year, take the xbox, but also take the ps3, see if you can get that guy to drop his price too!

Had a look at both the console and they looked as though they had had a 'hard' life so decided not to bother so i am on the lookout for a good deal again but am back in the same boat as i was at the beginning.

Am leaning towards the PS3 for the media side though at the moment.
