Ask yourself this, if you hadn't have ran that program would you have noticed a problem?

Also how reliable are these programs?

I am sure hard drive manufactures love these programs that throw out these errors/warnings.

Is there any tools available from the hard drive maker you could try out to see if it confirms the same.

By the way my storage drive has had this for a few months now, nothing I can do about it so I just live with it, if you are concerned because you have material you really want then you should back it up somewhere safe or get a new one and copy the contents.

Had this pop up on my WD Black, was fine for a while then it started the grinding noises and freezing for a few seconds (windows drive so everything would freeze), eventually read failures would start being reported so it went back under warranty.

It's telling you that the drive has a bad sector. Unfortunately at this point you can't tell if it's the first of many on a dying drive, or if it's just the one sector on an otherwise healthy drive that could last for ages.
I'd run the manufacturer's diagnostics on it to see what that reports. If you do keep it, it would be worth keeping a close eye on the pending and reallocated sector counts - if they start to go up it's a bad sign. Personally I wouldn't be putting any important data on it.

@hyperst - if there's a developing problem then isn't it better to know about it? Tools like hdtune read the SMART data that the disk itself generates, but different manufacturers/drives can use the attributes in different ways so the tools have to interpret the raw data - some are better than others at this.

No there is no warranty on it I bought it used but good from another forum.

Kind of pointless having a drive i dont want to put anything on. Ill get back in touch with the seller.

I probably wouldnt have noticed a problem until it was too late. I think its always a good idea to run a programme like this when buying a second hand drive to make sure your not just buying someone elses problems.
