I paid close to 900 for mine (3070) and I know it is worth around 350, I wanted it and could not wait any longer, I pay the price for my impatience, but am ok with that.

It's by no means a general thing and apologies if I implied that, and I should have said "some people". I came close to buying a scalped GPU a few times until I got lucky with a 3080 FE for MSRP, but I set a limit of £800 max and knew that I would get significantly less when the market normalised.

The responses ridiculing the used prices post were clearly from delusional people sticking their fingers in their ears and ignoring the actual used GPU price market. These are the kind of people who think a used £750 GPU with no warranty is a a bargian for only £120 less than new.

You tend to find all sorts on eBay and I cannot fathom how some sellers are just taking the ****. For example all versions of Steam Deck are being offered for around £150 more than new because these muppets think they are rare. The truth is you can order a brand new new Steam Deck and get it delivered in less than a week and it is actually cheaper than eBay.

But I don’t think that will happen any time soon with Nvidia choking supply of Rtx 30 to justify Rtx 40 as well as help to sell these Rtx 30 over stock.

It's the same with PS5's and Series X's as well.

I'm seeing PS5's and the new Xbox on eBay for £550 or more!

The Argos near me has the Xbox in stock currently and the Game down the road are selling both the disc and digital PS5 for less than 600 (admittedly they are bundled with a Game t-shirt and hat...). A mate of mine just got one of the PS Digital versions direct from PlayStation for 379 - but it's still on eBay at 570 quid!

Personally I would say no. The fact you can get a used 3080 for £500 (or less) makes the 3090ti at £800 60% more expensive.

1080p the 3090ti is about 10% faster
1440p the 3090ti is about 15% faster
4K the 3090ti is about 20% faster

So the price per performance is shockingly bad. If you plan to game at 4K I would recommend a used 3080ti for the extra VRAM.

Thanks for that. I haven’t chosen a monitor yet but it will be a 32” 4K with a decent refresh rate.

RTX 3080 is imho the value benchmark because its fast enough to do pretty much anything right now well barring edge cases like hi-res VR.

You drop below the 3080 in price you see diminishing performance returns very quickly for not much savings, you go above the 3080 and it gets expensive very quickly.

4090 is probably 70% faster in most cases but 300% the price.

I think the truth of the matter is if you're looking at 4k RT gaming or high-end VR you've got to lower expectations of value because that is reality we face, buy enough GPU grunt to get you what you need and then enjoy the experience don't agonise over £100-200 here or there because its peanuts over the lifetime of your GPU and a small % on the total cost of your PC setup. What matters is do you need 4xxx series or not, if not then yeah spend a extra £100 to get a better 3080 that saves you £1k for 2yrs.

At 4K I would look at a 3080Ti at a minimum. The fact you can get a 3090 (non Ti) for ~£720 on eBay renders a 3090Ti for £800 overpriced. Unless you are in a rush I would hold out a few weeks until the 4090 hits the market. You will see a lot of impatient 4090 buyers looking to shift their old 30x0 GPUs.

For used prices I filter on eBay for sold/completed items and lowets price. Ignore anything sold over two weeks previously as those are not current prices.

His prices may be a bit low but not by too much, maybe 15% at best. The fact that mugs paid scalping prices for their last gen GPUs will not change that fact that once 40xx and 79xx are released the last gen will not be that desirable. This scenario was easily predictable when people were paying almost £1k for 3080s there was no way they would hold anywhere near that value.

Just because someone paid well over £1k for a 3080ti does not make it worth anywhere near that used. The fact that used 3080s are already well under £600 means a 3080Ti, or even a 3090 are not going to be worth much more than that. You really think a used 3080Ti is worth hundreds more than a 3080?

The irony is you are doing a lot more wishful thinking than the person you are ridiculing.

3070s have been going for £350, 3080s £575, 3080ti £750 in the past few weeks. Depends on condition and brand etc.

He is referring to trade in shop. Cheapest RTX 3080 is £590 atm. With discounted vouchers which he assumes at 80% of face value brings the card to £472. But more commonly the vouchers are 85% of face value.

I am referring to no such thing, I am referring to eBay.

Go look at eBay, search for used RTX 3080 and select sold/completed items, then filter on lowest price + postage. Over the past few weeks there have been 3080s sold ranging from £450 + postage. In fact in the UK only you have to go about half way down page 2 on the sold listings to get anywhere near the £590 price you mistakingly think is the actual cheapest.

That gives you an idea of what you should be aiming for used at the auction place. If you bid more than that, or are impatient and fall into the buy it now or "I won't let someone else win" trap, that's your problem.

I have seen 3080s set with £550 starting price end up re-listed because nobody put in bids. People are getting wise to the fact that a 3080 used can be had for ~£500 or less.

Well it's worth remembering it's one of the higher end 3080's, with a great overclock and silence. But there were plenty on sale and mine was at the lowest end. I don't think you'll find many in decent condition for less than 500. I just checked and yeah I'm right filter to buy it now and nothing is below £500, it's not really a realistic expectation to set IMO. £400 would be a great price too.
