Seemingly major problem at work...

I get noticed by students if I'm out in town sometimes and it can be quite annoying. Some are allright and friendly but others get really cocky and take the ****, hoping for a reaction.

If you're out of working hours and off school premises, can't you tell them to **** off?

Probably, I just haven't risked it and you still stand the chance of being undermined and becoming something of a joke amongst students.

It would definitely be worse for teachers as they run the risk of ridicule and that could seriously affect their teaching ability and the level of respect they command.

This reminds me of a few years ago, One of my old teachers and very good friends was sacked on the allegation that he hit (slapped) a teenage kid. He was the life and soul of the place and the nicest guy you could meet. He'd worked there for over 35 years. There was no proof just his word versus my old teacher.

Within a week there were around 3000 letters and emails sent to the school from previous pupils from all around the world including America, Australia showing their disgust at the situation.

it was organised for 1 day ex pupils travelled from all over the uk to protest at the school. the headmaster and sxhool board at the time got a shock when around 450-500 people turned up one lunchtime to voice their anger.

In the end he was reinstated and the allegations dropped, I heard on the grapevine that the little **** who made the allegations had the **** kicked out of him daily for months until his parents moved him out the school.

Have you tried another union? I've had this happen to me, the GMB took my case right away.
I was told by my headteacher I was sacked, I got in touch with the union the same day, and suddenly a letter appears at home, hand delivered stating I have been suspended on full pay.
The reason, answering my mobile, and holding a cup of coffee.
After a few meetings with goveners, headteacher, line manager and the union, I was reinstated.
They can make mountains out of molehills, which they may have done to you.
I have also been involved in allegations against staff by pupils, it's not pretty at all, even if it's found unproven, it stays on a record, and when asking for another crb check it will show up.

Just join a union, they'll know what to do.

I am no expert but as far as I am aware they should have gave you a reason for your suspension. I got suspended from a job (internet tech support) about 5 years ago. When I arrived in work my manager and his manager were waiting for me on the floor. I was told not to log onto my PC. They then took me into a room and advised me I was being supended and what for. I would not have left if they had not told me what for. They then asked for my security pass and marched me out the door lol. My union rep helped me out and I was reinstated. I got 3 weeks free holiday as my suspension was with full pay.

Haven't read all the replies and don't want to alarm you but 'prepare for the worst, hope for the best' springs to mind.

As a precautionary measure it wouldn't hurt to check out other available jobs, if you do get the boot, which I'm sure you won't! as you say you've done nothing wrong :)

Are you a teacher or do you just work in a school??

If you are a teacher join a teachers union such as National Union of Teachers and get leagal advice and support asap because whatever the alligaiton its serious because you have been suspended. There is most likely no grounding or foundation to it, but dont expect it to be an easy ride and take it very seriously, ultimately it could ruin your career.

I'm not a teacher, no, I'm just an IT Tech employed by the school.

Although I shall probably Join UNISON tomorrow, and see if they can help.

So yesterday, Just as I'm getting ready to leave work for the day, my line manager comes into my office, and says he's been ordered to confiscate my keys, and has to escort me to the Head managers office.

I was rather confused, but I do as he says, and follow him to the office, where I'm told (and this is literally all I've been told) there's been an incident, and while it's investigated, I'm suspended for the rest of the week, and I shall recieve a letter and phone call to explain what's going on later in the week.

I asked a couple of times while I was there what was going on, and why I was being suspended, but they refused to tell me, and then had my line manager get me to collect my belongings, and escort me off site.

Can they do that? I have no idea why I've been suspended, As far as I know I've done nothing wrong, and knew nothing about any of this until I was in the managers office.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

oh dear, no news yet? Wait to see what they say first before jumping the gun. Lets hope it's false acquisition, week off fully paid. I really hope for your sake you have done nothing that you shouldn't have!

Hi Affliction, I hope things get sorted out for you. Firstly if I was in your shoes I'd ring up the HR/personnel dept & request in writing the reason for your suspension.

As far as unions go, many will not get involved with something that they class as ongoing. However, I found when I was switching unions to T&G, they stated they couldnt get actively involved but they were still willing to give advice on what action was best to take. So maybe double check if the unions your thinking of will be willing to give some advice on the matter anyway.

My mum is a teacher and unfortunately something similar happened to her. She was accused of mistreating a pupil during a French exchange which she had organised.

Luckily she wasn't suspended, but until stupid little runt was finally forced to admit he'd lied it wasn't a pleasant time. What made it worse was that the kid was free to say whatever **** he pleased in the meantime, but all members of staff (including my mother) had to maintain complete silence on the issue.

It will be a bad mark against him unfortunatley. At the end of the day, if it is a kiddie fiddler comment one of the kids has made, that will be spreading round the play ground and the folks will be finding out from their kids. Just hope you dont have nut bar ***** parents wanting to go vigilanty on your ass.

If you dont think you have done anything wrong dont worry too much about it.

If you work in a secondary school it sounds like something that will go to a LADO.. reason being is that they havent told you why you are suspended.

They never do esp if it is something that requires a strategy meeting.

Let them get on with it and sit tight.. you may wish to contact your TU in the interim.
