Seemingly major problem at work...

Hi Affliction,

My advice to you is to join Unison straight away and seek advice on this matter, as an IT Technician in a secondary school also i know that there are several things that could have caused this immediate suspension, the main one being an accusation from a pupil.

It is SLT and School protocol to keep this under wraps and total silence will be implemented.

Good luck with finding out what is going on from your IT Manager and Business Manager, it's likely to be a false allegation from a pupil.

It doesn’t stop you from joining them now does it, have a word with them about it a.s.a.p.

Quoted from the UNISON website:

Eligibility
# In order to qualify for legal help you need to: Have been a UNISON member at least 4 weeks before realising you need legal help

One would imagine that if I join now and DO need legal help, waiting 4 weeks before requesting it is probably too long a period?
Any Leagl Eagles on here?

From what you say, I wouldn't worry. My wife is a deputy head and there is such a rigid procedure to follow if the slightest hint of accusation is made. This includes radio silence even on what the accusation is. Widespread in the public sector. Friend's mother works in a care home and was suspended on full pay for over two years without ever knowing what someone had accused her of, let alone mounting a defence. Even if it is something like a paper cut and the child says the teacher did it while handing a book back, the child protection procedure could get wheeled out. Blame Ian Huntley. Enjoy your week off and, again, would love to know the outcome.

You haven't (knowingly) done anything wrong, and you're suspended on full pay. I'd be loving it :D

Seriously, don't get worked up over it.. they are the ones that will look stupid if it comes back to them.

I'd be popping into my Solicitors asap, don't know where I'd be without them tbh, couldn't handle being suspended like that without knowing what for, if you can't afford a Solicitor a lot of them do offer a free appointed and better than CAB.

Anyway good luck mate.

One of my mates got instant dismissal and didn't know why.

Turned out he just forwarded (note DIDN'T WRITE just forwarded from a mate to a couple of other mates) a load of joke emails, a couple of which were racist.

Somehow boss-man got to read the email .. instant dismissal time. No written warning. No 'you have been a badboy' .. just 'Get out of the office right now, forever'!!

!

That's absolutely pathetic.

Anyway, good luck OP.

Well you must know if you've been touching up anyone?

that was tactless :p

on topic, go to citizens advice, see where you stand. from what i gather, they cannot just remove you/suspend you unless there is a valid reason, and you should have the opportunity to explain/defend yourself on the spot.

citizens advice ;)

Just wanted to say good luck to the OP. Deffo sounds like an accusation of some kind that was aimed at you.

go to CAB

join the union too. this might escalate further in 4 weeks. or of course it could all of gone away. either way atleast you will be a member if anything like this happens again

I plan on calling the CAB tomorrow morning, to see where I stand with this.

Would anyone recommend calling the school to ask about the situation, If I don't hear anything from them tomorrow, or is that a bad idea?

Have you been browsing the random picture image thread at work? There are some ridiculous pictures of women in there. I don't know, just a thought!

1. Stop posting online and get this thread removed from the forum.

2. Get your backside down to the CAB.

It's probably a pupil or parent making a claim against you.

Contact the union and explain then seek legal advice post haste.

You'd be silly not to be in a union when working with children/vulnerable people. Hope it works out well for you, these things can really drag.

On a plus side you can catch up on some gaming/modding time ;)

Unfortunatly, I haven't joined the union yet, was planning on doing so but hadn't gotten round to it :( wish I had now.

I would join the union now, who knows, in one month time you may find this was a wise move. Maybe they will help you sooner.

The union will always want more members, regardless of situation. Don't think you're abusing them.

Why get rid of the thread? I haven't disclosed the identity of the school, or the names of any people involved, and don't plan to either, so if they should happen to find this thread, they wouldn't be able to hold it against me; I'm only asking for advice, much like I would be from the CAB.

That's all I can think the problem is as well, although I would love to know what they're accusing me of....

No, it is perfectly acceptable to suspend an employee without covering off the reasons for it straight away. The reason for this is to prevent issues with any subsequent investigations etc. You also do not get a right to defend or explain yourself, as suspension is normally done pending full investigation/disciplinary action, and until investigation is complete, there may not be a case to answer.

Suspension from work is not a judgement or a negative mark, but a necessary part of complaint investigation for the safety and fairness of all parties involved.
