Seemingly major problem at work...

Well, I FINALLY got a phone call, all be it just to say I need to go in tomorrow morning for a meeting to discuss the matter.... I shall keep you all informed :)

Good luck, stay positive, I'm sure it will all work out for you. I do think other peoples suggestion if recording the meeting is a good idea, even if it's only for your own reference. I've done this on phone calls to some companies in the past when I have had ongoing problems dragged out, it's handy to know what people said at what time/day, even so I can create a time line of events for future calls.

Affliction I cannot stress this enough you need to join a union.

I am also an ICT technician in a school just like you are.

I know you haven't had time to join one and I am sorry you have had to find out the hard way that it is so important to join one. Joining one only costs a few quid a month out of your wages.

I went for about 2 years without joining one and it wasn't until someone highlighted how important it is you join one I realised that it is worth the time taken to join. The amount of backup and legal advice they can give are second to none, so others tell me.

I know you said that you need to be with them for at least 4 weeks but call them anyway and explain what is going on.

You must be feeling very terrible right now.. for them to suspend you like this I can only guess an accusation of some kind has been made against you.

Let us know what happens mate.

Call CAB and the union.

Definately record it if they allow you, but ask everyone present to state their names and roles at the beginning of the recording so that it's presentable as real evidence.

Good luck (assuming that you've nothing to hide and are being honest to the board), it'll be tough.

I hate when people having done nothing get accused of nasty things.
I hope everything works out for you, good luck!

I also am an ICT Tech at a High School/Sixth form and always thought what if something like this happened, usualy as i often see sixth formers when im out clubbing....and usualy very drunk.

If a CRB check returns mention of sexual abuse of children, especially if the person is a man,it's rather likely that a potential employer isn't going to look into the details. So it wouldn't matter if the "child" in question wasn't actually a child (they could be 17) and/or if there was no evidence at all supporting the allegation. Guilt will usually be presumed and even when it isn't employers will often play it safe - if they employ someone who is guilty and does it again, then it will look very bad for the employer who hired them despite the CRB check "proving" that they were "guilty". SCHOOL HIRED KNOWN ABUSER! headlines would appear.

Do you actually know what a CRB check is and what details it returns ? The police would have to be involved and have issued a caution as a minimum for anything to come back. Other than that it's POCA and POVA who may hold a record but if no formal action is taken (eg the case is unproven) after the suspension they normally wouldn't be notified iirc but that process may have changed. If you don't actually deal with CRB's now could be a good time to stop posting about them :)

Place your bets people!

- A young girl has accused eggface of touching her
- Eggface has been caught browsing porn or downloading illegal material on school computers
- Eggface 'remembers' the offence, comes clean, and resigns
- Eggface genuinely innocent but suspended pending further investigation
- All accusations withdrawn and they still don't tell him what the original problem was
- Any combination of the above or something else entirely!!

Good luck Affliction.
