self-defence weapon or not?

More realistic suggestion, are cattle prods legal? Good reach and would probably stun a human pretty badly. But as far as I know stun guns aren't legal so they probably aren't either.

Forget the German Shepherd man get a GOOSE. No jokes, nobody will ever try and break into your house if you have a pet goose running around. Also they make more noise than a dog too.

You'll then get broken into by eastern europeans looking for dinner.

I have one of these: Light enough to swing quick, but hard enough to smash knees

not true, you can use forced if you feel threatened.

And you are likely to feel threatened if the intruders didn't leave upon announcing yourself so in effect you can use reasonable force most of the time, you just can't attack someone running away. And you can't attack someone you corned in your house who can't leave.

We have this problem, seriously on a first name basis, soon we'll give them a key so they dont wake us up.

Seriously though, last time I had someone trying to break in, I dropped a breeze block on their head.
Quickly ran down stairs and let the dogs out until the police came.

No. In theory purposely placing any kind of item that can be used for self-defense would not be a good thing to do as it how premeditation to cause bodily harm. So my suggestion of using a mag-lite or my girlfriend with bear spray to hand is not actually very great, but there is somewhat of a legitimate reason for such items to be in my girlfriends bedroom.

You would have no reason to have a cattle rod in an accessible place, and unless you own cattle you have no obvious need to own such an item so it would be clear in the eyes of the law your intention of owning the cattle rod.

Aint nothing that beats a good old 9iron.

Speaking from personal experience, a very good weapon, I still bear the scars of 10 or so stitches above my eye, from when I was hit at 3am by an attacker armed with a golf club. who had broke in to my house 20 years ago.

I now keep a nice piece of hickory by the bed, just in case.

Anyone remember Tony Martin?

It's illegal to do anything more than ask them to put it back and please go away is the result of that from what i've heard. Extreme case maybe but a very good example of what we can REALLY do....

Anything you do to protect your property is pre-meditated and therefore opens you up to prosection if it goes wrong for them and good for you....

Not true, Tony Martin couldn't plead defence as he laid bobby traps, removed the bottom stairs of the stair case and then flooded his assailants with light before opening fire.

You need some form of sporting good such as a cricket/baseball bat or a golf club as you're only allowed what ever is to hand at the time in the use of reasonable force. A weapon bought specifically to fend off intruders would not be viewed in a good light.

you cannot have a iron bar or a premeditated weapon but if you had your golf clubs by your bedroom or if you left your hammer in bedroom after diy feel free to lay into the scum with them.

Sleep with a hunting knife under your bed, that's what I do. Tbh after 3 break ins, I'd expect the police to be doing a steak out every night for a few weeks?

FYI - if you stab an intruder in your own home it can be argued that it's self defence, unless they're leaving the premises, so, stab them and drag them back inside lol

Put sensors on each window that will pour 140Db of noise if touched, talk to you landlord and get a small but vicious dog. You can get a 4 year old dog who will start garding your house immediately after moving in.

Serious answer,

Buy a dummy bell box and stick it on the outside wall to scare them off, to them it will look like you alarm your flat/apartment

possibly rig up a camera

Lol indeed.

If you do keep a hunting knife under your bed and purposely attack an intruder you rightfully with most likely end up behind bars, and if you attack someone running away, insider or outside your house you will have committed murder.

If I sleep with my air rifle in my room, because I shoot birds from my window. If someone attempts to steal my car I wouldnt hesitate to shoot them in the leg, back, arm or head. Similarly, if someone breaks into my house, I see it as, it's him or me, weapon or not, if I can subdue them, they won't be walking to the courthouse the following week.

I wonder how many people actually face prison sentences due to burglary, my worry would be, if you rough them up, and they don't face prison, they could come back.

Makes you think whether it would be better to kill the burglar so they can't come back for revenge

Don't wipe your bum for a few days, you will have a horn like a rhino and be charging Land Rovers with impunity.

THAT WILL LEARN THEM.

Purposely attack? Mate if they have a weapon, I'd chop they guys arm off if it stops him using it, law or not if someone is in my house without permission they deserve everything coming at them?

I work in security "reasonable forcez" is almost impossible to define. Just like self defense is! Like I said, if they have a weapon, I'll do what I have to to disarm them and hold them til the police arrive, like I said, my worry is if they don't face prison and come back

I think all this is a ruddy joke. If someone breaks into your home, where you live with your family who you love more than anything else in the world and that is full of things you have worked hard for.

Then more fool them. You should be allowed to use any force required to stop that intruder that is in your home uninvited.

Burglars etc are of course scum, but I am sure they know that what they are doing is illegal. So should be prepared for the consequences of there actions.

Like many people on here and people who I speak with in real life. We would and should be able to do anything to protect out property and loved ones if we believe we or them are in possible danger.

If feeling threatened excuses the use of force when would this not apply? If somebody broke into my home I would feel threatened at the time, regardless of their intentions.
