I bought a PS5 but have also been waiting for Zen 3 and considering a 5900X.

The main (only) game i’m currently playing is COD MW using a 2080Ti, 3440x1440 and 100hz gsync screen. It would be nice to hit 90fps constant in Warzone like in Downtown area but is that worth a £1200 upgrade?

I’ll get my £450 preorder cost back easily and then need to spend £700 on cpu cooler, motherboard, ram, case and ssd for OS. With this big upgrade I feel like a new slightly larger case and fresh ssd for os would also be worthwhile.
PS5 i would also need to spend money on games at maybe £60 or £70 a pop

I suppose i could sell the PS5 then wait a bit to see how benchmarks hold up. I also don’t mind 2nd hand so maybe somethink lesser would suffice

I was considering the Ryzen 5 3600 but everyone was banging on about waiting for Zen 3 as it’ll bring vast performance gsins
At the resolution you game at you would probably not even notice the difference.

1080P and productivity is where the gains will be.

Not notice the difference between a Ryzen 5 3600 and Ryzen 9 5900X?
I take it a motherboard like the MSI meg x570 unify supports the Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 9 chips. If so i could get the cheaper ryzen 5 3600 cpu to save ~£350. Then at a later dare upgrade to the 5900X if i need too

You would probably see like a 5% improvement @ 3440x1440.

Which CPU do you have now?

You need to sell a kidney to buy zen3 by the trend of some on this forum. :D.

a mere £500 PS5 ain’t gonna cut it to offset the zen3 as it is the biggest ripoff of the century!

Even in areas if built up geometery where fps dips to 50s despite lowering all graphics settings and resolution?
My aim is to get cod mw at 90fps+ all the time.
Current CPU is an i7 4790k @4.5ghz. Had the same CPU for around 7 years

Everyone was sucking the balls off Zen 3, then just because there was a £200 markup everyone changes their mind :D
I kniw it wont but i was planning on getting both. The £500 offset will fund the markup, a new case and slightly better than planned motherboard which should hopefully mean no need for a DAC / dedicated soundcard

In all fairness zen3 looks like the gaming CPU but you are better off going with cheaper zen2 and invest in the platform it mobo and ram and GPU then you can drop in the respective zen3 once it’s price hit a reasonable mark fo you.

I would love PS5. But wife will kill me.

I'm keeping my 3600X for now but my route to zen3 will be a b550 or x570 upgrade from my aging x370 board.

I'll then pick up a zen3 chip after a few months of saving

I would knock down a few settings until you get your 90 FPS, and then see if you feel like spending £1209 to turn the settings back up.

Free to try, could save you a packet?

Tried, similar fps. In built up areas like Downtown on modern warfare the fps tanks down to 50s. Be it with all settings on high or all on low. This to me shows a CPU bottleneck.
Same in coaster planet. Big parks it doesnt matter the settings or resolution, fps still takes a hammering no matter how pretty it is. Look away from sll the action, then sure. No problem

Fair enough, that's good information.

I think a 3600 or 5600X would suit you well, no need for a 5900X for gaming. 3600 is great for most challenges, but 5600X will brute force through a bunch more stuff.

Would go with 3700x myself tbh. Get a couple more cores in case then newer games somehow load them all and rule them all. It would be a bit annoying to find 6c is lacking in 6months time when all the new games come out that has proper multithreaders. Also 3700x is a better sell in used market than 3600 for sure.

if you are keen 3700x can be had for around £220. If dabble in the auction then much cheaper can be had.

I guess the price gap is relatively small right now.

3700X is that cheap? Not at 'mainstream retail' I guess, to use your phrase?
I got a 20% code that can shave £56 off the 280 CPU. It is within mainstream retailer but the code is account specific.

auction site runs some decent discount at time that can enable the price hit even lower. Or just bid on auctions.
