Hello, do not try to sell the actual UK to me as that would not work for a variety of reasons.

We are holidaying in the UK in July 2025 for four weeks with perhaps a cheeky week or two additional in Greece and Italy. I have prepared a list which I am worrying over and need UK guidance on. Your mission - should you choose to accept it - is to remind me why the UK is a great place to visit for a family holiday.

Pros
See friends and family (positive)
Might bump into @dowie and other GD superstars, so hot omg
hmm ...
uh ...

Cons
Cold and miserable and that's just the people*
Flat and terrifying
Is Wales real or just in the stories?

Thoughts please.

* not a joke, also not dowie

Sausages and sarcasm. When travelling for a long time, I miss good sausages (lancashire, cumberland etc.) and general british humour/sarcasm.

Cons: Weather is almost guaranteed to be *****

Pros: There's lots of nice towns/cities to visit, I suppose it depends whether you want something like London with all the tourist attractions, or something a bit coastal/out of the way - Cornwall for example.

Pros:

In various cities it's actually super efficient. You get to see both remnants of UK and also the middle east thus saving you a flight

Cons

You have to do so in the rain.

But jokes aside, I always enjoy the traditional British food, they get mocked a lot for it, but when it's good its amazing. Great pub culture and the people when they are nice are very genuine.

But if you're visiting just for friends and family who cares about the rest of it especially if you live so far away normally. (If you are a UK native I'm curious as you find living so far away from "home". Could never do it myself).

And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England's mountains green?
And was the holy Lamb of God
On England's pleasant pastures seen?

And did the Countenance Divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here
Among these dark Satanic mills?

Bring me my bow of burning gold:
Bring me my arrows of desire:
Bring me my spear: O clouds unfold!
Bring me my chariot of fire.

I will not cease from mental fight,
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand
Till we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land.

:D

Avoid the big cities other than London
Avoid Luton at all costs
Wales is real and totally wonderful
Scotland is stunning beyond words
We have outstanding beaches but don't go to the common beaches like Newquay in Cornwall, go off the beaten track
Likely won't be cold at all when you get here, it's cold right now but soon the weather will probably get uncomfortably hot for us locals and we will moan about it. We moan about the weather a lot.
Visit Sea Palling beach in Norfolk
Visit Holkam, it's like the beach that time forgot. Forest leads straight into the sea, incredible.
The people up North are far more welcoming than those from down South but all in all most people are nice

There is plenty to see here, even for someone from New Zealand who is used to stunning views.
