Sennheiser gsx 1000 thread?

"Balanced" headphone amp for my Sennheiser HD600 - each driver has an isolated active ground and power supply which in theory produces better results than when they are sharing a ground return as with normal amps. In theory should let me use the 600s nicely with the GSX 1000 and maybe reproduce surround better maybe.

So the cabling to the headphones instead of:

----------------- left wire
----------------- ground
----------------- right wire

it has:

----------------- left+ wire
----------------- left- wire

----------------- right+ wire
----------------- right- wire

and the electronics to support that in the amp.

Excellent, I wouldn't even know we're to start with all that :D
look forward to your results.

Installed one of my old fav's the latest Rainbow Six, my god I felt like I was cheating, this game seriously shows off the GSX I swear if there wasn't objects and what not in the way I could shoot and hit people with my eyes closed, the detail is insane, worth a go!!

Been also noticing a difference on Rainbow six, a game that before is quite tricky too pin point sound because of the new sound engine they using. With the GSX so far I have had no issue I can easy hear where people are coming from etc.

CSGO is also better now that am used to the sound difference although I need to play this game without any story mode etc just neutral otherwise the bass is too much and puts me off my aim.

I've just ordered this, got it with £30 off direct from the manufacturer thanks to a discount code.

Can't wait until this arrives and I can see how it works with my BeyerDynamics DT770 Pro's!

Thank you Shankly for the videos and everything, you've been immense.

Glad to help out :D look forward to your feedback :D Enjoy

have u guys set windows to 7.1 via windows sound options?

Yeah that is the correct way for the GSX to function correctly. Plus also Full Range speaker on all speakers.
Also if a game has 7.1 or surround sound option you should select that. The game will then send a native surround sound stream that the GSX will do its magic..

Keep in mind here the GSX works best when a game or Movie is outputting native 5.1 / 7.1 channel the GSX then takes that and creates its own Virtual Surround sound.. This Video sample is "Stereo ONLY" so the GSX is taking a two channel stream and creating a virtual surround sound. Even though this isn't the recommended way of using the GSX I firmly believe it's done an excellent job here even beating the Dolby Atmos Headphone.

Is that with all software surround/atmos processing disabled when doing the GSX runs of the demo?

Atmos does a good job of creating an immersive, movie like, soundscape i.e. good for single player but IMO stuff like the GSX works better for picking out individual sounds i.e. good for multiplayer.

With the Stereo run and Dolby I set the Windows to stereo only all GSX stuff was disabled. The Atmos only activates once you enable it within windows sound otherwise you get just plain stereo.

The GSX was with Dolby Disabled and was just taking the two channel audio and creating its own virtual surround sound.

Easy to understand why it isn't used:
1 Vrms into 32 ohms is weaker than 1,1V of cheapest Realtek codecs in motherboards!

Even basic sound cards manage that easily, not to mention high end sound cards.
For GSX's price that's sure plain lame performance.

Well, at least its binaural simulation algorithm doesn't suffer from Dolby Headphone's bass bloat and overal public path/ceramic tiled room echo.
Though Creative's binaural-simulation is better:
And GSX's price would cover SB Z and separate Objective2 hp amp capable to driving almost any possible headphone.

Personal preference
I upgraded from a Sound Blaster Z and the GSX blows away SBz but again this is personal preference!
I still use my SBz though and that is only for music because I really like my EQ

For Gaming the GSX just can not be touched and I have used almost them all Virtual surround sound.

Well I'll be darned...
Took HD595s from cabinet to listen Sennheiser GSX - SBX Pro comparison thinking maybe GSX's algorithms work better for their frequency reponse than DT990.
And totally opposite to what expectation bias should cause result was more toward slightly opposite feeling.

One thing to keep in mind here is the difference between these when recording them.

The GSX doesn't have a native hardware used to record the unit. For the GSX you need a 3.5 to 3.5 from headphone out into a 3.5 input on a sound card like SBz and record the microphone input. Sadly this does effect the quality of the output and adds some unwanted noise

So for recording don't listen to the GSX for sound quality and more for the surround sound effect

The SBz has a whatUhear feature built in and you can record this and get a true 1 to 1 output meaning the SBz will sound so much better sound quality wise.

If anyone finds away to properly record the GSX please let me know.

What do you guys mean by record the GSX? anyway i have some questions regarding this item if you guys would be kind to share as i have received mine today,

After configuring your sound settings in windows to surround sound, do you have to configure it back on stereo mode or do you guys just leave it and use the amp to do that instead?

what settings would you recommend for a competitive fps shooter like rainbow six siege?

To show how the GSX sounds on say a Youtube video you need to record the headphone input of the Unit. If you just record a game standard all you doing is recording the audio before its got to the unit.

For Setup the GSX works best when Windows is set to 7.1 Full range speakers and games are set to 7.1 or surround headphone options. The GSX can also work well taking a standard stereo 2.0 and creating a virtual surround sound just like My Dolby Demo above.

For those umming and aahing over purchasing this, google has alerted me to the fact that it is now available for £120.99 from a certain bricks and mortar retailer that used to stock pencils on which you wrote your order down from their catalogue. That's down almost £80 from full RRP and £60 cheaper than I paid.

Excellent price and where I think this product should be priced.

Truth of the matter is though, this is easy the best virtual surround sound on the market and that alone has a premium price tag.
So I still didn't mind paying the original asking price.
