I read today (admittently the sun, but either way) that Star Wars had been knocked of the best sci fi film ever by british vote, to Serenity.
Now ive seen it, and i thought personally that it was abissmal.
Did i miss something and should rewatch it, or am i not alone in thinking this doesn't even come close to starwars?
 
True, it's a great Sci-fi film, but in no way does it match the incredibleness that is Star Wars. Baaad decision there, us. :mad:
 
When I first saw it I though it was pants, however, after watching Firefly, I loved it the second time round.
 
Seeing as it was a poll of SFX readers, I'd say the chances of them having watched Firefly and Serenity was quite high. Not having read SFX this is mere speculation, but I'd imagine the series, film and general universe is regarded quite highly amongst people 'in the know' as it always seems to garner favourable reviews.

I couldn't tell you what it's like as a film on it's own right, having watched Firefly first, but it's a damn good movie and more than worthy of having its 5 minutes of fame. I'd rather watch Firefly and Serenity than the 6 Star Wars films, which makes it better- for a given value of 'better'.

If it's still number 1 in a vote 15 years from now I'll eat my anti-gravity boots.

Good film but the others in the top 10 are all classics that have stood the test of time.
My opinion is that Alien is the greatest sci-fi flick and Terminator 2 is better than Terminator.
 
I love Serenity too, think Nathan Fillion's character Mal is one of the best there is but a Star Wars beater it is not. Serenty fans are a weird breed no?

I watched Serenity before Firefly, and I thought it was a good movie, however I wouldn't have said it was the best I'd ever seen. I then bought Firefly after lots of people recommended it, and watching Serenity again it made much more sense, and I loved it.

The hardcore Firefly fans are pretty crazy though, so I can easily see them placing it above Star Wars.
 
loved the firefly series, and Serenity was pretty good aswell, though i'm not sure i'd place it above star wars (not above the original trilogy anyways)

I'm a huge Firefly/Serenity fan. My box set is signed by members of the cast, and I've met some of them. I can probably quote every episode.

Is it better than Star Wars Episode IV? Nope. But when correctly mobilised and organised the fans can vote in their thousands.
