SETI@home News Vol. 114

I got a second invite from them as well  today you'd think that the first one that got no response would be enough like i said before i aint gonna leave any time soon ;):p:

I salut your loyalty s'ah

No one ever asks me *snif*

That is good, if you ever get an invite, it will mean that you have switched wee beastie over to seti and I need a couple of weeks before you do that,,

Toxic = your patience is legendary, never has one man spent so long crunching one task - take the id and checkit when you finish..

Should we just knock through the cell wall and have 1 large cell for a while ;) There pretty cramped after all. I'm looking forward to a larger cell when i hit 10th and the rumors of windows as well :D Lets just say i may need some SPF 10000 its been that long since i've seen sun light :p

Windows in the top 10 cells  Id heard the rumours, but never believed them!
The knocking through of the cells seems like a good idea, but the screws tend to get a bit touchy about that, and Im not in the mood for a lockdown - they might find my biscuit stash..

My damn laptop is too hot to use unless its on a table - see what inconveniences you are causing me..

Look on the bright side it'll soon be over (till you re stomp me again) i've been drawing it out a bit cos i've been folding for the last 24Hrs on 1 rig due to lack of work ;)

I have 12 spare cores I 'could' bring in, but they are crunching MW,LHC,Einstein and Rosetta - Im loathe to bring them over as once I took the plunge, I found that I actually enjoy having some alternative projects. Plus cpu crunching on seti doesn't bring that much in, so Im not missing much..

The laptop has a 230M which churns a wu out in 50-60mins which makes it worthwhile..

Hi all nice RAC everyone :)

Ive got the chance to run gtx460 for a week or so maybe longer
I will setup on latest boinc d/l then assume lunatics new 0.37 for fermi
Do i have to do anthing else or is that enough ?

Also me 8800GTS at work died as i tried to remote to it from home which ive now learnt to my dismay kills it till i can get back into work in a week or so :(

Milkyway ati card doing good though :)

Still no joy with 9800gt was unstable, now gone to good home with daughter at uni :)

Hmmmm if i find out one of you kicks an astropulse into touch and i don't get mine validated i will be ....rather upset.

Yes i got the recruitment email, their system is not an efficient one. For a start when someone indicates quite clearly that they are "not in the slightest bit interested" and "1776 was the smartest thing we ever did" why would they try again?

I am not bitter and do not wish them any harm but there's is a "house of cards" quite literally and it wouldn't take that much of an ill wind to do damage.

Besides me fellow teammates - am sure we could do just as much damage with free intel xeon processors and unlimited electricity.
Did i say i'm not bitter? I would be more forthright with the strength of my venom but it's hard when i have 2 gpu users group members on my friends list, thoroughly nice chaps they are too.
Anyhow time for a long walk with pooch, and to strategise the future after getting to number 8 rank :)

ta and how do i set the app_info bitter :)

Go to app_info.xml depending what os your using its in C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu open the app_info.xml with notepad only.Scroll down and where you see <type>CUDA</type>
<count>1</count>
Thats telling boinc to run 1 instance of cuda per gpu, change it to
<type>CUDA</type>
<count>.5</count>
Which is telling it to run 2 instances and .33 for 3 etc.
Try it with 2 taking note of how long it takes to do 1 before changing, that way you can confirm by looking at 2 sets of completion times if it is worth doing 2.
Think i have it right :)

They want to be careful recruiting like that. It can get peoples backs up and that's probably not a reputation you'd want.

Very true sah - wouldn't mind but it's not even covert, very in your face which is just not British!! :D

That app_info, er, info sounds right Toxic :)

Aye, attempting to poach members is a little out of order.

Anyway, if it was done in a British way the invite would be something like "I say old chap, your output is totally spiffing! Would you mind awfully joining our wizard team?"

Here Here TT!
We should be carefull we could be invaded at any moment "for the sake of world peace and security".
I can see it now "U.S. peacekeepers lay siege to the U.K in Gpu users group recruitment drive". At least we know this time it's not the oil they'll be after but our rac.

...I would have thought the British way would have been a 'tap on the shoulder' - although quite how a virtual tap would work, I'm not sure

The GPU users group cant be all that picky i got my invite yesterday!

BTW just got a second K9A2 platinum with 1055t:) i now have 4 free pcie slots, how many PPD would a GTX460 give in seti assume stock clocks? (for now)

I've got to hand to them, they've just stomped SETI USA!!!!:eek::eek:

Impressive when you consider they have less than 40 active members and are now the top performing team by RAC!

I'm guessing around the level of a 285 (we've only just had the first iteration of optimised apps for Fermi cards), so I guess slightly in excess of 50k (excluding CPU).

Any 460 users care to comment?
