SETI@Home & OcUk Projects News Vol. 173 31st March - 6th April 2012

I'm gonna set-up up a specialist water cooled rig - so each card has it's own isolated loop.

Not the easiest thing to do - especially due to space restrictions.

As each card has it's own loop I need some 90 degree low profile fittings to go directly onto the GPU blocks.

In particular this version:

Wow that sounds incredibly complicated, i have only just grasped the basics of watercooling but 4 isolated loops ..... would it not be easier to build a nuclear submarine :)

Lol, probably would be.....

Don't forget the CPU loop to.... So it'll be five seperate loops......

Sorry but sounds like a complete waste of time to me from a cooling perspective, sure sounds like fun from an engineering geek perspective :)

I have a few of those connectors if you need them btw I think

You're right - it's purely to see if it can be done (don't expect any
significant advantages this way).

Have already ordered the fittings - but thanks anyways.

Phew, made it ( in both senses of the word:D)

As someone else who devotes a tiny % to rosetta I realise what a superb effort that is Mr Kolala - well done s'ah

Cheers for the news Toxic - are you gonna try and beat loudbob now that he has thrown down the gauntlet?? ;):D

Your welcome sah :)

I see what you did there trying to shift attention from your ever growing output :D:p Am sure when Mr Loudbob puts the finishing touches to his project that he will trump me with ease, only question is will the Reavernator stomp its namesake before Mr Loudbob catches up

Nice going on your million tiffy with rosetta Mr kolala sah, fingers crossed in next 24 hours should have 2nd rig up and running so will be donating the cpu cycles from that to rosetta.

Sphagetti hoops never tasted so good :D ;)

Oooops .... temporary drop in output while i sort this out

All GTX 680's have now been verified as fully operational (prior to water block installation).

Will leave three in the rig whilst I attempt to fit the fourth with it's new water block).

Should imagine if all goes well I will dismantle the whole rig tomorrow and proceed with cleaning out the CPU loop and then fitting all the GPU's with water blocks etc etc

Not sure how long it will take - but I ain't in a rush :)

I am now almost crying.

I'm just wondering, where's volume 174? Any particular reason?

Also, my 7850 is nicely set up, overclocked and crunching. Doing 2 VLARs at the mo, 50%-80% load. Might try getting 3 WUs on the one card. I haven't really been crunching, but yet my RAC is still in the high 600s, expecting it to go higher.

And good luck with those 680s loudbob - the output from those will be insane.

EDIT: Here's the original asking for volume 174, if ReaVer's post makes no sense:
"Where's volume 174!?"

The news is done on a purely voluntary basis (and is appreciated as such by many). If the person/people involved don't have time or don't feel like doing it at any point so be it. Frankly the way I see it the news is a nice extra. There is absolutely no need for anyone to feel like they have to do it.

There should be no expectation that a news thread is done by a set time on set day if at all.

Any and all effort put into it, as always, is much appreciated.

I apologise if that sounded desperate - I was just wondering where it was.

*goes to edit post*

Also, my new card does seem to have upped output. My RAC has gone up by about 100, to 792, despite that it was crunching a couple of vlars.

EDIT: I went onto boincstats just now, and this greeted me:
