Since when?
Since forever? as I understood maths?
The computer understands it the way I do, if you type it into chatGPT as is. As I said, a computer only does what it is being told....with the information presented, the answer is 430.
You swap, because you increase your probability from 1/3rd to 1/2 now.
When you first picked a cup, it was 1/3rd.
But if you pick again, it is now 50/50. If you stick with the original decision, you stick with the original probability.
He wrote half - 50% is literally half? Or are you saying it's ambiguous and poorly worded?Don't put in 50%. The OP didn't write fifty per cent.
put in half, like 1/2. or 0.5
He wrote half - 50% is literally half? Or are you saying it's ambiguous and poorly worded?
Because you interpreted half as 0.5. I interpreted half as half of the only given value (100). Some people interpreted half as 50%. It's a crap question written to engage smart arses on FacebookThen how do you explain how I got 400 when I put in 1/2 ?
this is the only correct answer so far! It's a crap question written to engage smart arses on Facebook
Yeah it's counter intuitive but true, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monty_Hall_problemwhilst on this silly maths argument, i hope it isnt derailing but i dont want to start a thread on another silly maths argument.
but apparently....
if there are 3 cups, one is full of gold and i have to pick one.... there is a 1 in 3 chance i get the gold.
i choose a cup.
then someone comes and removes one of the other cups and says, that cup did not have the gold, thus leaving 2 cups.
i am then given the choice, do i want to keep your cup or swap with the one on the table still.
I am told, with absolute certainty that mathematically i should swap cups to have the best chance of winning.. however i cannot get the reasoning why straight in my head.
Because you interpreted half as 0.5. I interpreted half as half of the only given value (100). Some people interpreted half as 50%. It's a crap question written to engage smart arses on Facebook
One and a half is a whole plus half of the whole. The whole in this equation was 200.Would you, or any sane person ever express "one and a half" as 1.400/200?
I'm currently discussing the answer to this question with a mate, and we are at logger heads over it.
Divide 200 by half and add 30? What do you get?
that link was perfect...... i now get it completely, i can sleep tonight thanks.Yeah it's counter intuitive but true, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monty_Hall_problem
The key in my mind is, somebody is removing a cup knowing it does not have the gold, not randomly removing another cup. So they are changing the game... Which helps my brain accept the maths behind it which is already proven.
It would be quick and easy to put a computer program together to simulate this. Maybe later!!
There is a right and wrong because since this is a maths question, by half and in half are different.
I have a question. A sensible question. A question that will test the limits of yourIt's not a maths question. It's a grammar question. The question isn't "solve the sum", any idiot can do that; it's "what does this ambiguous bit of poorly phrased English mean".
The question is this: given that God is infinite, and that the Universe is also infinite...would you like a toasted teacake?
