You are wrong on one thing.
There is a girl with a girly name in eve online, actually a woman.
Known her for long time, some friends been on fanfest with her.
And my cousin and her husband met while playing BF2.
Its not rare to find real girls playing games, but very few act like some of you stated here.
I had a group of friends playing games, we come from same town and about 1/5 of them are girls. Some were just some guy's gf or family and played casually, but some were full time players.
As for stories chk4 is telling you here, don't mind him. Types like him play for so long, they can't tell reality from game.
 
I remember being in a WoW guild called Dead on Arrival on the Azjol-Nerub server, i played a warlock and there was this girl in our guild who played a death knight, her name was Laenax.

I was 16 she was 19, i dont rememebr how we started talking but it eventually turned to sex talk, she added me on MSN and frequently got her boobs out on cam, she later left the guild and we stopped talking, she would send cam videos to other guilds better than us to get into them.

She now has quite a big youtube following from doing game reviews and interviews etc, her name is kaeyidream if you wanna check her out ;)
 
I only came into the gaming section to find opinions on metal gear solid rising!

Anway, I played wow for 8ish years and none of this happened to me, sure girls approached me and they were real as far as I could tell (I didn't take any leading positions because I couldn't be arsed) but they always lived really far away, like serbia/italy etc, but damn. They were hot.

Actually I went back to wow for a couple of months at the beginning of this year and met two girls, but again they either lived in the very north or south and had a partner yet were happy to flirt like mad =/ Don't they realise they look like whores or don't they care?

It boosts their self esteem and makes them feel wanted. Real life issues are usually an underlying cause for this behaviour. Often, they are just shy so they rarely or never flirt IRL which makes a game the perfect opportunity to do it.
 
Damn i wish when i played Eve and had my own corp i ran around telling the females about my bpos and my titan, might have seen a few boobies hahahaha !!!
 
Most females in MMO's are men, the logic is if you're gonna lose and immerse yourself in a MMO the next logical step is to play as a different gender to one you are irl.

I had a thing with a girl from my clan a long time ago, before I meet my wife.

The amount of horny teens who hit on my wife on battlefield is hysterical, Asian girl playing games online, she's heard it all and even had a few pervs sending her **** shots on xbox live. One guys actually seriously crossed the line once sending her some pretty nasty stuff and threatening to come round and rape her, the advantage of a pay system like live ment it was dealt with very quickly by MS and they told me they would keep records in case we ever wanted to get the police involved.

Its a good job I trust her and she has a sense of humour. The BFF video called girl gamer (which I wont link cause id get a ban) is pretty much like every time my wife logs on including her sometimes extreme reactions when she kills someone who's been giving her the "girls don't play games" BS.
 
Oh man, the amount of times I've seen people play "Internet BF/GF" through a game. The best one I've seen is a girl (who was actually a girl funnily enough) get friendly with a guy. When things starting getting too much she pretend died posting as a relative that she didn't pull through on a operation to remove cancer. Then many months later she popped up again to spill the beans, even saying the pictures she originally posted weren't of her but her cousin or sister.
